Over the past years, the capability of AI to rule over our devices has been established. The insurmountable success of technology in the field of transcription is just around the corner, but its application in online meetings seems less noticeable.
This time, Microsoft Garage has developed its latest project, which can automatically transcribe and convert conversations, so you can now say goodbye to the traditional meeting notes.
How Does Microsoft Garage's Group Transcribe App Work?
According to Slash Gear, the app is created to provide clear transcriptions of physical meetings, not for virtual conferences.
However, Group Transcribe could be used in online meetings, but the changes in the app's efficacy can be easily noticed. This is because the application gathered the audio input coming from the devices during the meeting to generate an accurate transcript, which also tells who speaks the phrase or a sentence.
Microsoft's new application can be accessed in iOS platforms which eases the need to translate and transcribe the real-time audio during a meeting. If you are previously relying on jotting notes while listening to the speaker, you can now fully pay attention using the app.
Group Transcribe is created through Microsoft Garage's effort, which is composed of a group of employees that have the objective to develop collaboration and innovation across all work divisions of the company.
This is also the same group that made apps like Journal and Sketch Pal. This time, they managed to pull out another state-of-the-art software run by an artificial intelligence system. Microsoft's tool also serves as a bridge for those who are experiencing language barriers and those who have hearing defects.
Furthermore, Group Transcribe enables the use of a microphone, which is adopted from the iPhone. It also immerses the users to have the freedom to select the people who want to conduct real-time translation or transcription.
To enable that, the participants can scan a QR code to join the app. What's amazing about this app is its flexibility to recognize various over 80 languages all over the globe, including English, Chinese, Spanish, German, French, and others.
According to the chief engineer of the project, Franklin Muñoz, creating Group Transcribe ignites its power to be an effective communication tool. He added that through the app, those who are multilingual will enjoy it since it could support several languages.
The Power of AI Behind Group Transcribe
The users can store the transcripts on their devices after transcription is finished, Explica reported. They are also entirely shareable, so sending it to people will only provide ease of message transfer.
However, times have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic erupted, but it can still be used with a limit. For instance, people can still use it in meetings that require social distancing.
Microsoft said that Group Transcribe also depends on AI technology called the Azure Speech Service, which started in 2019. It can clearly determine the conversation and make a transcript out of it.
In addition, the app can also aid the researchers in their studies when the participants are involved. Through Group Transcribe, more interactions can be carried out since it allows multiple-language recognition, Xuedong Huang, the Cognitive Services team chief technology officer, stated.
