Apple is now working on the MagSafe-compatible battery packs that will reportedly be compatible with the new iPhone 12 models. The leak also revealed a new feature consumers could be getting called the "reverse charging."

Apple leak reveals new battery pack

Jon Prosser, a certain Apple leaker, revealed on the recent Genius Bar podcast the news regarding Apple working on two different versions of the said battery packs. One of them would be just a standard version while the other one is said to be a premium version capable of reverse charging.

According to the story by MacRumors, although Jon Prosser doesn't technically dive into details regarding the reverse charging. However, if the leak were true, this would actually mean that the upcoming battery pack will be able to charge both the iPhone 12 while also charging let's say the AirPods on the other side of the battery at the exact same time.

Jon Prosser Apple leaker

Prosser reportedly has a mixed record when it comes to certain predictions made regarding Apple's plans and so far, not every leak given in the past turned out to be accurate. This means that the reliability of the information is still unclear and should also be viewed along with some skepticism until finally confirmed.

Prosser also claims that the main source for the information is also not sure regarding whether Apple will be releasing both the battery packs or if there will only be one upon launch. This means that consumers might not be able to ever see a version with the reverse charging debut.

Apple new update iOS 14.5 beta

Later in the week, Prosser then plans to release his possible renders regarding the battery packs that were based on information given by his source. Apple's work on the new iPhone 12 battery packs started some time mid-February after the recent launch of the second iOS 14.5 beta.

There was also mention of another mysterious "battery pack" that was discovered in the code by a particular MacRumors contributor known as Steve Moser. Bloomberg even confirmed later on that Apple is now indeed working on the supposed iPhone 12 MagSafe battery pack.

Bilateral wireless charging: back-to-back charging

Gurman, however, did not mention a new reverse charging possibility, but some of the given prototypes were actually described as having a new white rubber exterior. Gurman also noted that the development of the accessory had actually been hindered by some software issues that Apple is currently working on fixing even before releasing the said accessory.

Bilateral wireless charging was reportedly rumored for the previous 2019 iPhone 11 models. However, it still did not end up being the very feature that Apple had implemented because the company wasn't really capable of making it work. The two way wireless charging would have even allowed an iPhone to be able to charge maybe another iPhone or a smaller accessory like the popular AirPods.
