In April, the previous Google Pay app is actually losing the app's key functionality. This means that users will need to move over to the brand new Google Pay version of the app before they will be able to carry on and continue using the service.
Google Pay app Latest version
According to an article by Gizmodo, the latest version of Google Pay was previously announced in November 2020 for US users. The brand new app is going to be based on the newer Tez software that Google had originally developed over in India. The new version is said to have a much more modern as well as social feel. It is also now more centered on people and businesses that users interact with instead of the standard transaction list.
This brand new app would replace the previous Google Pay app that had launched back in January 2018 in the previous Google Wallet and Android Pay merger. The latter was Google's own app version helping their users pay for things with a tap of their phone. The former was Google's app that can be used to pay other people as well as buying things online. The original Google Pay is capable of bringing all functionality into just one app.
Those who don't update will still be left with features
On April 5, the previous Google Pay app will lose the ability for users to be able to make peer-to-peer payments. Users won't be able to see their transaction history as well. On April 6, users accounts will still be connected to their cards so users can still make purchases through physical stores.
How to use the new Google Pay app
1. Download the new Google Pay app
2. Log in to the new Google Pay app
3. Either contact Google or switch to the new app to transfer the old balance to the new app

Google Pay app terms
9to5Google noted that users will be able to get their original balance from the old Google Pay app through contacting Google or by simply switching to the new one. The new update to Google Pay terms, however, would add another requirement of its users (which won't be a problem for maybe the majority). The new update would increase the minimum age of users for the Google Pay app from 16 to 18.
For those using the Google Pay app outside of the US, there's no reason to panic as the new Google Pay experience most likely hasn't arrived in other countries yet. As with the Android Pay and also the original Google Pay before it, the new and improved Google Pay app will slowly be making its way towards other parts of the United States. The rate as to when and where will the switch be rolling out to other places in the United States is still unknown but one thing that users want to do is to smoothly switch before April 5.
