Huawei Mate X2 Foldable Phone Launch

According to MacRumors, Mate X2 was unveiled during a special launch event held in China, showing off the dual-screen smartphone and its 8-inches display that now folds inwards, compared to the first model that folds outwards bringing the main display on the device's exterior.

The radical redesign could rather change the people's feedback on the device compared to Mate X.

However, the device won't be running any support for Google's apps and services, as per The Verge, and this could severely impact the device's appeal outside of China.

Based on the company's website, Mate X2 will be running on EMUI 11.0, which is based on Android 10, but Huawei announced that they are planning to make the latest foldable device become one of the first phones that would be upgraded with the company's exclusive operating system known as HarmonyOS.

Huawei is planning to update the phone's system sometime in April.

Specs to Expect

When it comes to the display, the Huawei Mate X2 has an 8-inch OLED display with a 2480 x 2200p resolution, while the second exterior screen is a 6.45-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2700 x 1160p, with both having the same 90Hz refresh rate and featuring the same ultra-low reflection that works better than Apple Pro Display XDR, according to Huawei.

Under the hood, the new device is powered by Huawei's flagship Kirin 9000 chip, which was used and debuted on Mate P40 last year.

Paired with 8GB RAM, the device is powerful enough to run various apps at a time.

For the battery capacity, Mate X2 has 4,400mAh and supports fast-charging of up to 55W, so it should have decent battery performance, but then again, it really depends on how it is being used and the phone's settings.

The foldable device has a quadruple-camera set up in a rectangular design on the exterior, featuring a 50MP wide-angle lens, a 12MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, a 16MP ultrawide camera, and an 8MP "SuperZoom" lens with 10x optical zoom.

Sure enough, the device also has a selfie camera, which is located on the outside of the phone on the second display screen.

Nevertheless, there aren't any selfie cameras in or around the inner screen display, so the only selfie camera on the device has a 16MP resolution.

How Much is the Mate X2?

As of writing, Huawei is only releasing Mate X2 in China, which will be available in the country starting on Feb. 25, and will be available in the 256GB variant for ¥17,999 (around $2,785), and the 512GB variant, which sells at ¥18,999 (around $2,940).

It is unclear whether Huawei will offer Mate X2 outside of China and when that would be, so for now, all enthusiasts can wait for further announcements from the company.

After the Mate XS, the Huawei Mate X2 is the third foldable phone from the company, an updated version of the Mate X.
