Microsoft Edge browser is now getting a new Kids Mode to help make sure that children browsing the internet are safe from inappropriate content.
Microsoft Edge Kids Mode
Kids mode is now available on multiple OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Videos and Netflix, and Microsoft is first rolling out the feature to Microsoft Edge Insiders on the Developers' and Canary channels, according to Yahoo News.
The mass rollout of the Kids Mode for Microsoft Edge is expected after Microsoft was able to test it with developers and those who currently have the Windows beta channel. The software company is yet to share mode details about this new mode.
According to Windows Central, Microsoft created the Kids Mode for children who are between 5 to 12 years. The children-specific mode has three custom browser themes and child-friendly articles that can help them safely brows the web.
The browser also automatically has the Bing SafeSearch on and it also sets the tracking prevention to strict. The Kids Mode can now be launched through the profile picker on Edge browser, similar to how the users of Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos select Kids' profile.
The report also states that the mode does not require a separate child account, so it should be easy to set up and easy to use even if you are sharing a PC with the family.
Notably, if the child wishes to browse through a safe website that is blocked by Kids Mode incorrectly, the parents can grant them access through a dedicated password.
The parents can choose which sites their children can access on their own, by selecting the websites manually. The Kids Mode also has an "allow list" that parents can use to adjust the browsing experience of their children.
The "allow list" will come in handy when it comes to adding new websites as parents may need to adjust the mode as their children grow up. The report also stated that Microsoft is planning to add more features and functions to Kids Mode on Edge browser in the future.
Meanwhile, Microsoft had introduced a new downloads interface for Edge browser that appears at the top right corner. It takes less screen space and can be cancelled easily.
The download icon also has a progress ring that allows users to monitor the overall download status from the toolbar of the browser. The download bar is only available for Dev and Canary channels.

First, click on the profile icon from the top left corner of the search bar, then select the "Browse in Kids Mode" option.
