A certain phone that utilizes "see-through" vision might sound like something coming out of a science-fiction, however, one device announced at CES 2017 and it comes close to exactly that. The phone uses a near-infrared spectrometer and is called the Changhong H2 which can determine how fresh a product is, if a medicine is fake, or even a person's body fat percentage.

Changhong H2 molecule sensor

According to an article by CNet, the Changhong H2 does this by simply shining a light directly onto objects like medicine, fruit, or even on skin which will penetrate the surface. The molecules coming from the object will then send back light in certain different ways and this particular information then gets beamed up to the cloud database where it is then processed and analyzed.

The technology was first seen from the very same company called Consumer Physics during last year's CES when it was still $250 using a standalone sensor called the SCiO. During that time, the sensor reportedly worked along with a certain phone app which would need users to pay a monthly subscription to use.

Chinese phone manufacturer

During this time though, the company has been able to team up with a certain Chinese phone manufacturer called Changhong to produce a phone with the sensor already fully integrated. The sensor is reportedly located at the back of the Changhong H2 handset. The phone is said to be preloaded with certain apps that will be able to analyze different things.

Scanning would only take just a few moments and the said apps also have a particular easy-to-use interface that would make using the sensor very quick and easy. The phone was also reportedly displayed with a big red exclamation point when it had scanned a counterfeit pill. Measuring a person's BMI reportedly only took just a few seconds when plugging in height, weight, and also age info.

Counterfeit medicine sensor

While the particular scanning concept is known to be pretty cool, the phone should reportedly be taken along with a grain of salt due to no particularly perfect method that can determine body fat aside from getting an accurate medical body scan inside a lab. Counterfeit medicine is also reportedly a serious problem and users should avoid taking a certain batch of pills especially if they are suspicious regarding its authenticity regardless of what a particular sensor would say.

In addition, the pricing information for the Changhong H2 has been set at a whopping 2,999 Chinese yuan. However, other pricings have not yet been announced. This converts to a whopping $433. However, the phone might be expected to cost more than that price as the sensor in itself would already cost $250. The cost could go up especially due to the Android 6-inch HD smartphone being added. A YouTube video also includes the Changhong H2 as part of the unbelievable smartphones of 2020.
