Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU has pooled eBay after reaching an insane mean of $1,300. 50,000 stocks of the RTX 30-series have been sold.
Nvidia RTX 3080 is still pricy
In a report by PC Gamer, resellers and scalpers took the opportunity to sell the GPU at a high price, that's why a spike of 85 percent above its MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) happened.
For Oracle data engineer Michael Driscoll, the market analysis that he made concluded a sales total of $61.5 million. The total sales only meant that an amount of $15.2 million is accounted for the profit of the resellers.
It's another season of scalping again for the big-time sellers, and yet for the part of the buyers, the hunting for the best GPUs became much difficult in the market.
Driscoll, who was based in Chicago, Illinois, has been making a record of a self-made data scraping mode. For some time, he has been a keen observer in comparing a product with their sales to their price on eBay. The graphs however are 'desperation-inducing,' so a small change in the pattern could mean only either an increase or a decrease in the sales.
His latest report brought a lot of bad news for the buyers. The in-depth analysis led to the findings that the RTX 30-series graphic cards continue to skyrocket overtime - the case of the scalpers' desperate selling. From 140 percent MSRP, the surge even reached more than 220 percent, a sign of the 'huge' loss for the prospective customers.
Now, the average price of Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti touched the $667-mark on eBay. It fell short when it comes to the MSRP of the RTX 3080 which hit an excess of $399 in retail price.
On the other hand, the average price of the RTX 3070 sits at $809, which is still quite lower compared to RTX 3080's median price of $1,300. However, the RTX 3080 did not beat its successor model, RTX 3090, which still hit a $1,499 MSRP. In some cases, the RTX 3090 can go higher as more than $2,000, a mark-up rate of 33 percent and above.
Meanwhile, prices on StockX recorded a sudden decrease yet, they have exceeded the MSRP. The scalpers could still gain a profit out of them.
Now, the RTX-30 series has been slowing down in production. Finding a GPU card for a reasonable price from a trusted retailer is still possible.
According to the News Troop, Nvidia targets May as a month for another assembly so the stocks of the GPU may come at ease. On the other hand, AMD might approximately hit the second half of the year for its next launch to meet its desired demand from the mass.
What happened last year
In September 2020, Nvidia launched its RTX 3080 GPU. The demand for the graphic card was high, but just shortly after its release, RTX 3080 were already sold out in all online stores in the US, The Verge confirmed.
Several buyers voiced disappointment regarding the issue while the eBay scalpers enjoyed a chunk of profit after hoarding GPU cards. On eBay, RTX 3080 was priced for more than $699. PC gamers put the blame on Nvidia just one day away after the preorders for the PlayStation 5 are stopped.
