Ironic as it sounds, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei introduced Nothing on Wednesday, as his new company. While it may appear to be an empty company, it has a lot to offer soon.
Literally Nothing but with Everything
After parting ways with OnePlus last year, Carl Pei pioneered his latest business venture named Nothing. Pei coined the idea of the company with its main feature of being "a new, forward-thinking consumer technology company."
In a report by GSM Arena, Pei already made the announcement in December that he will launch a fresh business brand. Nothing was funded by iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Product Hunt CEO Josh Buckley, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, and former Beme co-founder Casey Neistat. The total investment cost $7 million.
It was revealed that Nothing will market its first "smart products" in the first half of 2021. However, there is still no official announcement about what devices will be released in the said period.
Pei was interrogated before the official launch of Nothing, but the Chinese CEO chose to stay silent regarding its product specifications. In addition, Pei also did not give any hints about its possible competitors.
The response, however, was reinstated by Pei when he mentioned that the company is aiming to target and establish manageable varieties. The 31-year-old entrepreneur said that he envisioned Nothing to have everything, like a huge network of interconnected and numerous categories of smart products.
Still, many claimed that Nothing will embrace a musical path.Yet, Pei said that the company will prioritize the hardware products than its software equivalent.
However, Pei acknowledged that the presence of decent software and hardware products would equate to a "healthy business" of a company in the long run.
Pei knew that the competition in the market has grown stronger since the smartphones invade the "tech world." While the other companies continue to make "smart products" with the same model as their competitors,
Pei said that they will originally customize their products from the scratch. This will bring the best for Nothing to exhibit its uniqueness from different companies. This is because Pei wants to avoid another incident where his previous co-founded company OnePlus, shared the same features with Oppo.
Oppo and OnePlus were operated by BBK Electronics, a big-time Chinese multinational conglomerate. Pei clarified that Nothing will steer away from copying other companies' design, and will build more original designs that they can produce.
What's Good with Pei's Departure
According to an article by Android Community, Pei's departure with OnePlus will only mean that another opportunity will soon open. OnePlus executives said that the company will now exercise never settling for less while striving to improve their products' quality.
In the second half of 2021, the OnePlus 9T and OnePlus Nord will be released in the market. The features of the new products are spoiled earlier this week.
According to the tipster, the said smartphones will banner a 120 Hz display, a lightweight design, and a slim form structure. The tentative date of the release of the products will be on March.
