Currently there are two farming simulator that are stemming from the same original franchise, they are the "Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town" and "Harvest Moon: One World." These two franchises are now going head-to-head as they release in the same month, on March 2021.
These two games are now competing with one another for fans, especially fueled by Marvelous cutting ties with Natsume back in 2014 by rebranding as "Story of Seasons." If players only have time for one game, which one should it be?
Harvest Moon's Split Into Story Of Seasons
Fans of the game often get confused due to the split that Marvelous made from Natsume. Natsume is the company that is responsible for English localization and had created the game "Story of Seasons."
However, Natsume still owns "Harvest Moon" and had decided to make its own games that is inspired by the originals that the fans around the world had come to love, according to Steam Community.
It is not clear why Marvelous pulled its Bokujou Monogatari series away from Natsume and had decided to use its own XSEED, a subsidiary, for English localization.
But both studios, in the end, developed each franchise and are now made of different teams than the original "Harvest Moon" games, although some consider the "Story of Seasons" series to be the real "Harvest Moon" games.
The Graphics Of Harvest Moon And Story Of Seasons
For both game franchises, the overall graphics quality has been the main focus of criticism. For the original "Harvest Moon" games, the graphics were not strong. Now fans find the graphics of "A Wonderful Life" charming for nostalgic reasons and many people still like the 16-bit pixel art of the older titles, they were regarded as being unimpressive by past critics.
The graphics of neither "Harvest Moon" or "Story of Seasons" did not really live up to the expectations of fans, and has not met the modern technology standards. However "One World" has fallen behind this section. Fans feel that the "Harvest Moon" games that were developed by Natsume does not look as good.
When Natsume announced "One World" the company claimed that the game would have fresh graphics, brought by a new engine and while they were an improvement from "Light of Hope" the animations were robotic, the textures were rough and it does not look like it was made with today's technology.
However, when making the comparison to mobile graphics, some of the farming simulator fans have stated the same about "Pioneers of Olive Town" but this is more of a positive comment to the strides that mobile games have made in the past few years.
Animations in "Pioneers of Olive Town" are smoother and generally more pleasing to look at than the animations in "One World" according to Polygon.
Bachelors And Bachelorettes
The marriage candidates in farming simulators are one of the biggest elements of interest in the farming community, according to Nintendo World Reports.
When it comes to "Pioneers of Olive Town" marriage prospects, the fans felt that the men were a bit underwhelming while the designs of the women made it difficult to choose between them.
However, with the recent announcement that "Story of Seasons" will bring back some romanceable characters from previous installments, it makes the relationships in "Pioneers of Olive Town" all the more interesting.
