Ford is currently making efforts to prevent further road accidents. The giant car manufacturer has joined the latest ongoing Data for Road Safety movement.
According to Engadget's latest report, people could avoid car accidents if the drivers could tell each other about the accidents and other potentially dangerous obstacles.
Because of this, Ford decided to share its own car data. This includes fog light usage, airbag activations, and emergency braking. The company plans to share the information with other vehicle manufacturers.
How Ford's decision helps
Ford's idea, in theory, could provide signals that are a good indication of something problematic on the road. This means if the drivers are notified if a car ahead of them suddenly activates their airbags or emergency brakings, there's a high chance there's a sudden car accident or the road has a problem.
The car manufacturer plans to do this by sending the information to the driver's cloud system. Once the data is sent, it will be distributed to other drivers taking the same route.
Ford also stated that these alerts can also be transmitted to emergency services. Doing this will increase their general awareness, as well as shorten their response times.
Ford also conducted a similar project 12 months ago. The giant automaker previously launched its Local Hazard Information program. This project collects and shares the necessary info with other Ford vehicles.
On the other hand, the car manufacturer also claimed that more than 80% of its passenger lineup would receive the data-sharings service by the end of the year 2021.
Ford added that the effort would be more useful if the data can be shared with other manufacturers.
Ford is also helping during the pandemic
Ford is also reportedly making efforts to help people prevent the further spread of the novel coronavirus. The company donated 15,000 custom face masks for those who are attending the inauguration. The provided face coverings have the logos of the 59th inauguration and the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.
"As a storied American company that employs more autoworkers than any other manufacturer, it's a huge honor for Ford to support a tradition so fundamental to our democracy," said Ford Motor Company's president and CEO Jim Farley via Business Insider.
