Tesla Model 3 Tow Hitch and Capabilities Coming Soon in the US, Leaked Document Shows

Tesla is reportedly planning to have a tow hitch option and capability for its mid-size sedan, the Model 3, to soon come to the US market after several years of not seeing the option but having one for the European market. The Model 3 is known to feature a redesign and remodel this 2021, and this suggests that it would come as an option for the vehicle like Model Y's new features.

One of the top-selling electric vehicle manufacturer in the world, Tesla, is finally adhering to the needs and wants of its home country and main market, the United States, with one of its deprived features, tow hitch. After several years, hints of the availability of a tow hitch and its capabilities are now appearing among Tesla insiders, teasing its soon appearance.

The Model 3 is the company's top-selling car as it is an affordable option that has loaded features and technology from Tesla, including Autopilot, its massive infotainment screen, and a spacious cabin. It is also one of the most iconic Tesla vehicles in its lineup, effectively one of its frontline against other car brands, having a refreshed model for 2021.

Tesla Model 3 Tow Hitch Option and Capability for the US Market

According to trusted Tesla insider and leaker "green" (@greentheonly), Tesla documents have suggested and filed a new development for the Model 3's redesign that features a tow hitch designed for the US market. This is a rare sighting, according to green, as Model 3s in the country have no tow hitch designs in their prior releases.

While tow hitches can be installed and customized from aftermarket auto shops, having one from Tesla and its factory itself ensures a better fit, own design, and a warranty for both the trailer hitch and EV's under chassis. The leaker was surprised to see the design in Tesla's EPC documents (engineering, procurement, and construction).

However, no concrete details were released with these leaks and documents from the Tesla leaker, only that it is a possibility that Tesla and the Model 3 would soon feature. Maybe this document suggests that the 2021 refresh of Tesla's Model 3 would have its under-chassis ready for a tow hitch, once options become available shortly.

Green added that the EPC also featured a radio that says "AM/FM/HD" as listed in the document, opposing the previous listing of it as only AM and FM. The new radio design is for both the Model 3 and Model Y, which makes no sense, says the Tesla leaker.

According to Electrek, Tesla already offered the Model 3 Tow Hitch design and capabilities in the European market last 2019, having a small towing capacity of only 2,006lbs. (910 kilograms) or a little under one ton. The EU Model 3's capacity is small but is enough to bring items for light camping or other cargo, as opposed to Model X's 5,000lbs. (2,268 kg) capacity.
