Samsung Launches 870 Evo: Specs, Price, How to Order and More

Samsung has recently just launched its new 870 EVO SSD, the latest addition to their SSD range. It's been two years since the successor 860 EVO has hit the market. As reported by XDA Developers, the newest SSD features faster speed at a much affordable price range which starts at only $39.99.

KyuYoung Lee, vice president of Memory Brand Product Biz at Samsung Electronics said through Samsung's official news site, "Representing the culmination of our SATA SSD line, the new 870 EVO delivers a compelling mix of performance, reliability and compatibility for casual laptop and desktop PC users as well as Network Attached Storage (NAS) users." Moreover, Samsung describes this newest addition "The definitive SSD for every need." It boasts of its versatililty and convenience for every user, whether it is for heavy-duty working, programming, editing, designing, or video gaming.

870 EVO SSD Specifications

Samsung is up to hit the roof with their SATA interface. Apparently the 870 EVO has the maximum speed possible with a 560MBps sequential read as well as a 530 MBps write speed. As per the company's claim, the new 870 EVO is a huge leap from the past model, offering upto 38% better reading speed as well as a 30% improvement when it comes to sustained performance.

It is housed with a Samsung V-NAND 3-bit MLC (TC) with a wide range of capacity options such as 4TB, 2TB, 1TB, 500GB, and a 250GB. As mentioned, it has a 560/530 MB/s Sequential read or write speed while it has a Random read of 98K and a write speed of 88K IOPS. It has a total bytes written of 2,400TBW for the 4BT, a 150TBW for the 250GB and a 300TBW for the 500GB. As The Verge notes, the 870 EVO has a faster speed at a considerably lower cost as compared to past models.

Samsung is sticking to its commitment of offering a 5-year limited warranty for consumers. Buyers will have a wide range of options ranging from the 250GB to the 4TB of size.
