Nvidia Shield TV: Software Update Now Supports Xbox and PS5 Controllers

Nvidia is currently updating its Shield Android TV software, this means that the Shield TV will now be able to support the latest next-gen console controllers.

If you have a Shield TV or Shield TV Pro device, you can now pair the PS5 DualSense or Xbox Series X controllers to play PC titles or Android games through Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming service.

For you to be able to pair a PS5 controller, you can go into the Bluetooth section of the Nvidia Shield TV. Hold down the PlayStation button until the light shows blue. As for Xbox Series X / S controllers, you can hold the pairing button until the Xbox button starts blinking.

Together with the controller support, Nvidia is also adding Control4 home automation system support in this Shield TV 8.2.2 update, according to Engadget.

This allows the Contorl4 remote or app to navigate around the Nvidia Shield TV UI to launch apps. This Shield TV update also brings the devices up to Android's security patch level that was update in December 2020.

Nvidia has consistently update the Shield TV software. For years, the company has improved its AI-powered 4K upscaling features in 2019 along with improvements to remote control customizations. Nvidia also added IR and CEC volume controls to its latest devices, according to PCMag.

Nvidia Shield TV features

The Nvidia Shield TV costs $149.99 and it has a Dolby Vision feature, HDR10 and Dolby Atmos audio that were offered by the previous Shield, and they also come with a redesigned remote, according to TechRadar.

Another massive feature is an AI-powered upscaling system that makes 1080p content look closer and more detailed to 4K quality. The Nvidia Shield TV has amazing horsepower and software that allows you to make adjustments, it is perfect for movie buffs and gamers. You can load the Shield TV with emulators and game ROMs.

The Shield TV include Nvidia's Tegra X1 + chip, which is 25% faster than the older device. The Shield TV has strong performance and it gives fast Android TV experience. Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and other apps open instantly and are smooth as you scroll through them.

Google Assistant responds fast and Android TV can now be included in the routines that are created with the Google Home App.

The home screen of the Nvidia Shield TV is nicely customizable and it is not laced with ads unlike Fire TV and Roku. You can scroll through the recent videos from your apps right on the home screen.

You can use Chromecast to the Shield TV, and the voice commands through Google Assistant as they work reliably. Google is also improving the Play Store on Android TV for easier discoverability.
