GAME said that it will make new efforts to prevent PS5 scalpers! The U.K.-based retailer has introduced new methods to prevent then scalpers from buying huge numbers of the popular console.
The online company said that it is currently checking the orders carefully to make sure that each customer only buys one PS5 unit. The decision was made because of the previous huge digital queues of people trying to have the popular console, which was restocked by GAME on Jan. 19.
A scalper bot called "Carnage" even adds pressure to the U.K.-based PS5 retailers as it claims to have secured more than 2,500 consoles!
"PlayStation 5's continue to be in very high demand and that demand far outweighs current supply," said the retailer via VG247.
GAME claims it now has strong measures
GAME said that they now have strong methods to help ensure that the company's one-per-customer policy is properly implemented and maintained. This will allow more consumers to successfully get their own PS5 console.
"All pre-orders are subject to automatic checks and order updates such as cancellations following these checks take place after a customer will have received a valid order confirmation email," added the company.
The U.K.-based retailer also explained that the orders it receives are still pre-order. This means that no payments are taken yet from the customers.
GAME will only require the payment once the customers' order checks are completed.
What triggered GAME?
According to Video Games Chronicle's latest report, one of the main reasons why GAME is now strict is because of a bot scalper. Carnage bot's social media account posted that it had successfully logged over 2,000 checkouts at the U.K.-based retailer.
The bot claimed that because of the PS5 consoles, it was able to generate thousands in profit. It also seemed to have mocked GAME, saying that hoarding PS5 is getting easier than it expected.
The scalper bot also locked its profile after consumers criticized its action and begged for GAME to cancel Carnage Bot's orders.
