Apple's iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 2nd Betas For Developers; New HomePod Mini Functionality and More!

Apple releases the second betas for its iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 to developers so that they could test it and conduct experiments. As of the moment, the latest iPhone and iPad systems are downloadable through the Apple Developer Center after the proper profile has been download on an iPad or an iPhone.

One of the major changes that Apple made is in the HomePod 14.4 beta, which is currently available to a limited number of testers. iOS 14.4 adds the smart speaker's new mini functionality.

iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4's major changes

The new feature takes advantage of the latest mini U1 chip. The HomePod Mini now offers visual, haptic, and audio effects to the iPhone 11 and Phone 12 U1-enabled, making the smartphones take advantage of the mini's U1 chipset.

The new effects allow the iPhone flagships to have a soft haptic touch rhythm that gets faster and faster when they get near the HomPod mini. Once the iPhone is complete besides the smart speaker, the interface to transfer a song between the two devices appear.

This new feature will make handoff more reliable and quicker on an iPhone 11 and iPhone 12, as well as on a HomePod mini. However, you need to make sure that all these gadgets are equipped with U1 chips so that their systems could understand or identify where they are in relation to one another.

On the other hand, Apple adds the new "Time to Walk" feature in the Workout section of your iPhone's Apple Watch app. This includes a toggle to the "Add Newest Workouts to Watch" option.

According to MacRumors' latest report, this suggests that the tech giant manufacturer is planning to add guided walking workouts in the watchOS 7.3 beta.

However, the new "Time to Walk Workouts" feature is not functional in the first beta of iOS 14.4 and watchOS 7.3. Although this is the case, speculations claimed that the two systems could activate it soon.

New iOS 14 widgets

9To5Mac reported that the Edison Mail adds six new iOS 14 widgets. These are intended to fill the gap left by Apple Mail.
