Tesla recently unveiled its compact crossover electric SUV Model Y, with its 2021 refresh that features a new seating option with the third-row seats, but pictures revealed that there is almost minimal to no legroom. Indeed, the Model Y is a compact vehicle that initially looks like a sedan rather than an SUV, but hats off to Tesla for trying to incorporate seven seats in this budget vehicle.
The second smallest electric vehicle in Tesla's lineup, the Model Y (next to the Tesla Model for kids), is the earliest drop of the EV manufacturing company for 2021 and initial photos reveal a let down for a huge family car.
The Tesla Model Y's update was not expected, however, Elon Musk previously teased that there would be an entry-level version of the electric vehicle that would come soon for people to get and purchase. This teaser is now the rear-wheel-drive version with 244 miles for its range, and a third-row seating option, which is quite lower than Musk's promise of a 250-mile range.
Tesla Model Y Third Row: First Look Shows Cramped and No Legroom
The cheapest Tesla full-sized electric vehicle is here and it is somehow not appealing to people because of previous expectations of a better range and a more affordable price which was initially promised at $25,000. However, this is still an affordable vehicle at $42,000 which can further reduce to $34,190 (Tesla estimate) after-tax reductions.
Apart from its new drivetrain, battery, and range, the latest addition to Tesla is the most-awaited third-row seating option that gives flexibility and more people to join the road trip. According to Electrek, the latest photos for its third row of seats gives the public a better and closer look that may already give them an idea of what to expect on the new seating option by the company.
The "Standard Range" option has given people another variant to consider when purchasing an electric vehicle, especially with compact SUVs that truly are smaller than what is expected. Initially, Tesla said that the Model Y can fit up to "7 adults" which they now changed to "7 people."
Tesla Model Y Third Row Seats: Is $3,000 Upgrade Worth it?
According to Tesla's website, Tesla's third-row seating option is an additional $3,000 upgrade as potential customers proceed to the online shop of the clean energy company. The additional sixth and seventh seater are indeed options which soon to be Tesla owners could consider or opt to remove.
The third-row seats include the following upgrades under the additional $3,000:
- Third-row seating for two
- Easy Entry into third row
- Third-row USB-C charging
- Sliding second row with adjustable seatbacks
- Fold-flat second and third rows for maximum cargo storage
- Electronic fold-flat releases in trunk
Fold-flat means that it can be used as a cargo space that resembles a regular trunk of a vehicle, offering no obstructions to space. Still, despite its cramped look, Model Y's third-row seating is a worthy inclusion to give owners an option to either sit more people or bring cargo.
