The first "Evil Within" game had set the tone for the whole franchise, but it did not do enough to make the franchise feel like a evolution of the survival horror gameplay, which is something that "Resident Evil 4" nailed.

The sequel to the game "Evil Within 2" which was launched in 2017 expands upon the tried and tested formula, adding more open areas and improving on the stealth mechanics for a new experience.

Although a third installment may not come yet, the second one is living on as a fan favorite as people are starting to discover it. For those who are new to the game, here are some mistakes that beginners tend to do.

Playing on the wrong difficulty

For those who have played survival horror games before, the Survival mode is known to be too easy. Ammo is abundant, the enemies have little health and are easy to kill, and combat is a piece of cake.

If you are looking for a true survival horror experience, you can go with Nightmare. It makes every bullet, item and upgrade count. You will also feel more rewarded for your efforts when scrounging for resources throughout the environment. If you want to go with a cozy playthrough, you can go with Casual mode or Survival mode.

Not playing stealthily

Survival horror used to be about dodging your enemies so you can save ammo. "The Evil Within" changes things up by making stealth a major mechanic. While you can go through the game using your ammo, it is recommended that you take a stealthy approach so that your enemies never know you are in the room with them.

Using too many ammo

The Nightmare difficulty puts the resource management pressure on the player. Sometimes, avoiding confrontation is the best option that you can go with. You want to find a good balance since killing enemies usually rewards Green Gel, which is used to buy upgrades from Tatiana.

Rushing through open areas

"The Evil Within 2" presents a lot of explorable hubs where you can complete some side quests, look for needed resources and make your way towards the next story objective.

These areas are made to be explored, so it is best to take advantage of the opportunity. On harder difficulties you are going to need everything that you find to make it through. If you rush through these, you will find yourself wanting for health items and ammunition during more linear segments.

Ignoring side quests

Although some players are tempted to go through the main path, it is best to complete side quests when they pop up. Not only do they offer valuable resources and upgrades for the protagonist, but they also expand the story of the game and they reveal more details about the supporting characters.

Trying to kill everything

This is what most beginners get wrong as they feel like they are obligated to kill everything on sight. However, that is not true and players are even discouraged to killed every enemy. In the game, you need to conserve ammunition and resources, so it is best to avoid confrontation.
