The "Ratatouille musical" on TikTok, also known as Ratatousical, debuted online on New Year's Day. Although a lot of people were reluctant about the project, it has been reported that the musical has now sold more than $1 million tickets in just two days, making it as one of the best news of 2021.
A portion of the ticket sales of the musical will benefit The Actors Fund, which supports the performers and the workers in the entertainment industry who are struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ratatouille musical on TikTok
The musical of the hit Disney/Pixar animated movie came together on TikTok after several months. The creators, including the set designers, composers, costumers, choreographers and fans devising songs, musical numbers and a fake Playbill for the fictional show.

Although it took a while, the production pushed through. After a couple of months Seaview Productions announced that it was producing the show in association with the social media app TikTok and even Disney/Pixar gave the musical the green light.
The show got massive Broadway stars to perform the songs and musical numbers, including Wayne Brady who played as Django, Andrew Barth Feldman who played as Linguini, Kevin Chamberlin as Auguste Gusteau, Ashley Park as Colette, Adam Lambert as Emile, Andre de Shields as Anton Ego and Tituss Burgess as Remy, the rat who loves to cook. The Broadway Sinfonietta was also included in the musical.
"Ratatouille Tango" and "The Rat's Way of Life" was created by Blake Rouse, a famous TikToker, and the songs were featured in the musical. The other songs that were included are "Anyone Can Cook" and "Remy the Ratatouille", which is the song that started it all.
The musical did not have the high-end production that Broadway musicals usually have, but the caliber of the performances given by all of the musicians, actors and dancers, as well as the quality of the songs, were all top-notch. Feldman called the musical as fantastic.
Near the end of the musical, audiences were able to see many of the TikTok creators who helped bring the production together. According to The Los Angeles Times, the musical was creative and fun to watch, and it gave a glimmer of hope to Broadway actors who are now struggling. This could be a part of the new normal, and this could be the new way that people can watch Broadway shows.
If you wish to watch the musical, you still have the chance to grab a ticket. The tickets are available until 7PM Eastern Standard time on January 4th, according to The New York Times.
'Ratatouille' the movie
"Ratatouille" was a 2007 film created and distributed by Disney/Pixar and was directed by Brad Bird. The movie was an instant hit both with the critics and the public. It scored 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and it grossed over $620.7 million over a budget of $150 million.
The movie was at the center of a plagiarism controversy as If magazine described Ratatoing, a 2007 Brazilian computer graphics cartoon by Vídeo Brinquedo, as a ripoff of the movie. There has been no lawsuit filed for copyright.
