Apple is officially letting go of Music Memos on March 1, 2021 as confirmed on the app's latest update. Users are then advised to immediately transfer to Voice Memos.
According to 9to5Mac , it is ironic that Apple marketed Music Memos in 2016 as a better version of Voice Memos, but it now urges users to use Voice Memos again. While Apple did not explain why it is shutting down the app, it is highly possible that there are not many people using Music Memos.
- Open the Music Memos app
- Tap "Export"
- The app will automatically create a folder in Voice Memos with file name "Music Memos." Here is where all files will be transferred from Music Memos to Voice Memos.
- Wait until the transfer is completed. Depending on the total file size, migration can take several minutes to finish transferring all recordings to Voice Memos.
- In case any errors arise, check the available space on the device. Clear up some space if deemed necessary.
- Once the process is completed and users still create new recordings, they would need to manually transfer these new tracks to Voice Memos in case they want to keep them.

How to use Voice Memos
Probably one reason Apple is letting go of Music Memos is because of low number of users. In contrast, Voice Memos is quite more popular because it is built in to the iPhone and it is easier to use than Music Memos. To use Voice Memos, just open the app and press the Record button. Once finished, Airdrop the recording to the Mac and throw it into Logic Pro or GarageBand.
Music Memos version 1.0.7 is free to download on the App Store. Users would need to have the latest iOS or iPadOS 14 update to get the Music Memos update. However, those who are still on older iOS or iPadOS versions may still use the Music Memos version 1.0.6. Meanwhile, those who want to try it out can still download it for free before March 1, 2021.
