The recently concluded The Game Awards 2020 has released not just the list of winning games this year but also tons of new game announcements, including one that definitely hyped up the entire gaming industry, especially fans of the "Mass Effect" trilogy.
'Mass Effect' Teaser
To the delight of many gaming fans, BioWare has unexpectedly released a teaser for a new "Mass Effect" game, and with it came tons of theories as to the premise of the title.
It starts by showing two galaxies, on the back is Andromeda, and as the camera zooms in, we're brought into our very own galaxy, the Milky Way, passing stars and cosmic objects and an asteroid belt, we also see the wreckage of destroyed Mass Relays, the remnants of the previous Reaper war.
As we zoom explore snippets of the Milky Way, we also hear past audio clips from previous "Mass Effect" titles as well as radio messages from Earth.
Then, we see a spaceship going into a planet, which turns out to be an icy one.
We see a figure walking through the harsh and endless winter, picking up the familiar shards of an N7 armor, and looks up to what seems like the Mud Skipper, as per Eurogamer, which has been previously teased by the developers in concept art.
Questions and Speculations
For those who have been playing the game, they would instantly recognize the figure in the finale of the teaser as Liara T'soni.
Now, several questions linger after the teaser: will the game solely center on Milky Way? Or will we get to travel to Andromeda, too?
When does the next "Mass Effect" take place? And of course, when will it be released?
Since Liara is an Asari who lives up to a thousand years, the next "Mass Effect" title might be set just shortly after the events of the third game, or it could also be a hundred years after, but it something is much clearer, it's that the next game will take place after "Mass Effect 3," picking up after the events of the Reaper war.
According to Polygon, it might also seem like the owner of the N7 armor shard is Commander Shepard, who dies at the end of "Mass Effect 3," something that players can never avoid regardless of what choice they make.
Moreover, it also seems like BioWare has teased a galactic civilization that could either be making new or repairing the old Mass Relays.
They also seemed to be connected with the Remnant, a species that was first introduced in "Mass Effect:
Andromeda."
When is the Next 'Mass Effect' Game Coming?
So, finally, when will the game launch?
As per the teaser, it merely says that "'Mass Effect' will continue," and according to the game's official Twitter account, the next title is now in early production, although they didn't specify any timetable or year when it will be launched.
But sure enough, the fans will be waiting for further news of the game.
It seems like the veteran team of developers will also be coming back to help develop the highly-anticipated "Mass Effect" sequel.
