As one of the largest trade shows and conferences in the world, GITEX has offered exclusive access to some of the latest technologies - some of them ahead of their public releases. Bringing the world of the future here and now, here are three of the coolest techs featured at this year's 2020 GITEX Technology Week:
Hyundai and Uber's Futuristic Flying Car Concept
One of the show-stealers in 2020 GITEX 2020 is Hyundai's flying-car concept, which was developed in collaboration with Uber Technologies. The model displayed at the Etisalat pavilion is similar to the model displayed previously at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show - a sleek white vehicle with black windshields and accents. The flying car concept model looks like a large, passenger-ready drone. It is fitted with four propellers, presumably employing a similar maneuvering technology to its smaller counterparts.
The South Korean automotive manufacturer has already announced plans to step up its development, looking for a full lineup of airborne transports that will loft passengers within the next ten years.
Boston Dynamics' Spot, the Quadruped "Robot Dog"
Black and yellow and galloping around the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) is Spot, a four-legged robot dog developed by mobile robot leader Boston Dynamics. While it is virtually a robot dog, it is not intended to be a pet. Spot is an "agile mobile robot" designed to navigate the terrain with exceptional mobility, allowing its users to automate inspection and surveying tasks. With this quadruped robot, operations that require moving around a specific area no longer need manual inspections, saving time, and significantly reducing risks to human workers.
Spot is capable of a number of preprogrammed actions, allowing him to run, roll, and hop around the 2020 GITEX exhibit floors. The Boston Dynamics project is also equipped with sensors to help it navigate and position itself, as well as a vision system to conduct its visual inspection tasks.
Smart Dubai on Creating New Realities
Smart Dubai is the city's government office assigned to spearhead Dubai's transformation into a complete smart city that provides an efficient and safe city experience for both its residents and visitors.
As 2020 GITEX exhibitors, Smart Dubai offered a taste of what its name would feel like by providing an Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) designed to work with the UAEPass - the United Arab Emirates' national ID and digital signature program. The Smart Dubai iPaaS allowed tech show guests and participants to easily search and discover services both in the event and in the city.
About GITEX Technology Week
This year's Gulf Information Technology Exhibition, or GITEX, is the only in-person live global tech show of such a massive scale. The five-day trade show and conference, which began on December 6 and is set to culminate on December 10, boasts more than 1,200 tech enterprises, startups, and government delegations from more than 60 different nations.
In line with safety protocols in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the event is also prepared with strict precautionary measures - officers will be enforcing social distancing, temperature screening terminals installed at strategic points, and contactless transactions.
