GITEX 2020 to Boost UAE-Israel Relations With Digital Economy Summit and Innovation Discovery Day

Boosting the relationship between two tech-driven countries, the first-ever UAE-Israel Future Digital Economy Summit is set to take place as a part of GITEX 2020, December 7.

The summit serves as one of the major events for the 2020 GITEX Technology Week, running from December 6 to 10 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The UAE-Israel Future Digital Economy Summit "presents vast opportunities for business collaborations, investor networking, sharing of ideas and experiencing mind-boggling innovations" for the two nations.

The bilateral summit will be attended by a delegation of key persons from both the United Arab Emirates and Israel, including Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and the Director-General for Expo 2020 Dubai; Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al-Kuwaiti, Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government; Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority; and Hatem Dowidar, CEO of Etisalat International.

On the other hand, the Israeli delegation will be led by the Israel Export Institute (IEI), which is the strategic country partner for GITEX, together with Bank Hapoalim - one of Israel's largest banking institutions. Its delegates include Adiv Baruch, Chairman of the Israel Export Institute; Yigal Unna, Director General of the Israel National Cyber Directorate; David Leffler, CEO of the Israeli Ministry of Economy and Industry; Dr. Anat Lea Bonshtien, Chairwoman and Director of the Smart Mobility Initiative from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office; and Dr. Timer Simon, National Technology Officer for Microsoft - Israel.

Keynote speeches and panel discussions are expected to cover important technological fields, including artificial intelligence, 5G, future mobility, financial technology (fintech), food security, cybersecurity, and smart cities. The bilateral summit is jointly presented by the Dubai World Trade Centre and the Israel Export Institute, with Microsoft serving as the summit sponsor.

Israel Innovation Discovery Day

Aside from the innovation and technology sharing between the two countries with the Future Digital Economy Summit, the Dubai GITEX Technology Week will also be hosting another historic event - the inaugural Israel Innovation Discovery Day, set on December 8.

The event will serve as an opportunity to showcase Israel's startup environment, as well as open avenues and opportunities with business, tech, and investors from Israel and the rest of the world. In its key event, the introduction of Israel to prospective investors, its panel will include seasoned executives such as Sabah al Binali, Head of the Gulf Region for investment platform OurCrowd and Noa Gastfreund, Managing Director for The Hybrid - a venture capital focused on supporting "Arab-led startups into multimillion-dollar companies."

There are also panel discussions focused on restoring businesses and capitalizing on a post-pandemic world - finding startup equity themes, understanding the value of social impact investments, and setting up sustainable startups.
