Haynes Manuals Retires from Making Printed Copies and Officially Switches to Online

The Haynes manuals have been a huge part of helping those both unskilled and also unqualified to work on their very own vehicles for about half a century now. These legendary manuals have been able to help those car owners with little to no experience to easily work on their own vehicles without having to hire a professional mechanic for the basic problems.

Do Haynes still do manuals?

Like almost everything nowadays, companies need to adapt to the online platform in order to stay alive. While the Haynes manuals have been able to make a strong presence in the past, the physical manuals are becoming obsolete as almost everything is moving online. In an official Tweet by Haynes, it was confirmed that on Thursday, the company will finally stop the production of new printed manuals.

Although this might be shocking at first glance, it then went to clarify that it would still keep its previous catalog in print production, so not everything will be lost. The decision to finally pivot the business model would most likely have been a difficult one to make. However, the company's decision to switch towards a digital platform could also keep it well alive for the following years to come, according to an article by CNet.

What happened to Haynes Manuals?

This move that the company is making away from print is still very understandable. Older cars, nowadays, require even more hands-on diagnosis as well as repairing or even rebuilding of certain individual components. Newer models are also increasingly challenging for people to be able to use those previous techniques on. Printing a certain book that works by telling someone how to use a simple computer also seems unnecessary as of the moment.

Haynes has recently claimed that its very new platform, which is yet to be discussed in greater detail later on, will be able to cover about 95% of all models and makes of vehicles. This will be around 40% more than the currently printed catalogs. It's currently unclear as to if the company will continue to base its own manuals on the more complete in-house tear-down as well as rebuild of the vehicles that are in question.

Haynes Manuals online

While the online version of the popular Haynes manuals looks are still in question, fans might either be thrilled or find that the online versions won't be as useful as a simple Google search. With modern technology and answers available at a simple search on a smartphone, some users might find it even more useful to simply search for answers regarding their autos on Google instead of searching through a smartphone.

There is a particular paper titled "Why don't people read the manual" published to Scholarworks that details why people have moved away from manuals and have gradually shifted to the use of the internet. As of the moment, searching for answers online is one of the most popular way for people to get answers whenever they have questions.
