Epic Games announced that it would shut down "Fortnite" for four (4) hours over the night to prepare for its upload of the coming Season 5, featuring Marvel's big baddie, Galactus the Devourer of Worlds. The "Fortnite" server down is intentional and will happen by midnight Eastern Time until 4 AM (ET).
'Fortnite' Server Down: Intentional Shut Down for Season 5
The popular battle royale game "Fortnite," is bound to close its servers tonight, disabling all the title's game modes, along with all of its features. The action shooter game currently prepares itself for the new season's dawn that would feature more of the massive comic-book villain, Galactus.
Season 5's server downtime occurs from midnight, December 2 (9PM Pacific Time), until 4 AM (1 AM PT).
"Fortnite's" Season 5 picks up where Season 4's Nexus War left off, offering the continuation to the Marvel saga that gave players the first-hand experience to play as their favorite heroes (and villain). The Nexus War's conclusion gave a fitting end to the Marvel tie-up by holding a limited-day event to fight off Galactus as he rose from the ocean where he once laid down.
According to Fortnite Status' Twitter account (@FortniteStatus), the game is currently in "prep state" as it prepares for the soon-releasing Season 5 on the game platform. The update is speculated to be a large file as it is unlikely for publishers to close down game servers when uploading game files.
The last battle for the Nexus War foreshadowed Season 5's main focus, which would be to highlight the Devourer of World's power and destruction. Galactus would be given a massive role in the next season in Fortnite's game; however, there is no news regarding the return or addition of new Marvel heroes, particularly the primary opponents of Galactus, the Fantastic Four.
'Fortnite' Season 5: Galactus is the Center of Next Season
According to Game Spot, the recently concluded Galactus event gave the entire Season 4 a conclusion that readied it to transition to the new season. The game finished by saying "to be continued in Season 5," and ended the event that many players joined together and participated in.
The event's conclusion immediately shut down its servers and closed the game for good. It did not lead people to the game's menu. Instead, a direct exit to close "Fortnite." The game is mostly focused on online features and connectivity to play, meaning that the server shut down would render "Fortnite" unplayable until its Season 5 return.
Moreover, "Fortnite" added that the Nintendo Switch and Windows PC update patch files are more extensive compared to other platforms.
