Utah's Mysterious Monolith Coordinates: People Begin Searching for It on Google Earth

Unusual finds are quite fascinating, so when Utah authorities found a mysterious monolith in a remote part of the Utah desert, the images grew viral rather quickly, and people are trying to pinpoint its exact coordinates location via Google Earth.

Discovery of the Utah Monolith

For those who have missed the recent news, the mysterious monolith was discovered while a crew of the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was assisting the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources during a routine bighorn sheep count.

On Saturday, November 21, Utah NBC affiliate company KSL TV reported the unusual discovery.

According to CNET, the monolith was around 10 to 12 feet high, as per pilot Bret Hutchings said after they landed to take a closer look at it.

Hutchings further said that the monolith was stuck firmly to the ground, but the authorities have no idea where it came from and what it's purpose is, although they speculated it might have a NASA connection or some sort of art piece.

Straight Outta Space?

Soon enough, the images of the monolith gained worldwide attention, with many saying it resembled a prop used in the film "2001: A Space Odyssey" by the legendary Stanley Kubrick.

As the image and the new grew viral, many were saying it's straight out of space and some alien tech, and that we should probably leave it alone, at least until the year 2020 is over, with even Hutchings and his crew joking over the monolith's origins.

But, where exactly is the monolith?

The Utah DPS that made the discovery might have shared the images of the mysterious object, but they kept the location a secret.

"It is in a very remote area and if individuals were to attempt to visit the area, there is a significant possibility they may become stranded and require rescue," the department wrote.

Hunting for its Location and Google Earth Coordinates

Despite the department's warning, people began their hunt in finding its exact location, with someone creating a Reddit forum where people can share their thoughts on where it can be found--and it seems like someone already has.

In a report by The Verge, a Reddit user by the name of Tim Slane found the possible location of the mysterious monolith through Google Earth, who found a redstone canyon that has a narrow gap, resembling the ones in the social media post by DPS.

"I started to realize I had a talent for finding places just based on the geography. All that paired with an abundance of curiosity about the world led me to spend a lot of time on Google Earth," Slane said on the Reddit forum.

As per the news outlet, it seems like the structure is relatively new since it's not yet visible on satellite images on Google Earth from 2013 to mid 2015s.

However, it seems to be more apparent by October 2016.

Furthermore, Bruno Philippe, an app developer, posted Apple Maps imagery of the possible location of the monolith, although the structure itself is shrouded in shadow.

Nevertheless, for the safety of everyone, never attempt to visit the remote location at all costs.
