Samsung Galaxy S20 vs Apple iPhone 12: Which One is Better?

Tech giants Apple and Samsung have been rivals for quite some time, especially when it comes to the smartphone arena. Now that the Apple iPhone 12 has finally been launched, people are pitting it to the Samsung Galaxy S20 that came out earlier this year.

But really, what's the best choice between these two high-end phones? Here's a comparison:

Design

For the design, Apple decided to bring back the boxier, flat-edged design reminiscent of iPhones 4 and 5. According to Macrumors, iPhone 12 has an all-glass front and a glass back panel, which are held together with an aluminum frame for a luxurious look.

On the other hand, Samsung also chose to somewhat redesign the Galaxy S20, and you can see the difference when you put its predecessor, the Galaxy S10, by its side. However, it's quite familiar when you put it beside the iPhone 12 as both have the same boxier, curved edge.

Display

The iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch screen display, while the Galaxy S20 is slightly bigger at 6.2 inches. Both phones also have nearly the same screen-to-body ratio and use the same OLED technology for a vibrant display.

However, S20 has a better number of pixels at 3200x1440 resolution, while the iOS device only has 2532x1170.

Water Resistance

Both phones have some level of water resistance.

Apple has made its device more durable and resistant to water, enabling it to plunge in nearly 20-feet of water for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, S20 can also be submerged in water for half an hour, but it can only survive five feet of water.

Performance

Both devices have excellent performance when it comes to performance, so regardless of any devices you choose, you can guarantee your phone will handle any app, especially mobile games.

However, when it comes to benchmarks, iPhone 12 has a slight advantage with its six-core A14 Bionic processor, as per CRN. The Galaxy S20 may have marked lower than the iOS device, but its Qualcomm's eight-core Snapdragon 865 can definitely handle almost anything, even mobile gaming.

Camera

The Apple device has a dual 12-megapixel rear camera with a wide camera and another ultra-wide camera. The Night Mode has improved than iPhone 11 with a few other camera features ready for phone photography enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Galaxy S20 has three rear cameras that include a 64-megapixel telephoto lens, and two 12-megapixel with wide and ultra-wide angle. The Android device has also improved zoom, providing up to 30X zoom.

Battery

It's quite hard to compare battery lives when you haven't actually used the phones, but to consider, the Samsung Galaxy S20 has 4,000m Ah, much bigger than the 2,815 mAh of iPhone 12, which may look small, but the company has promised it can get up to 17 hours of playback.

iOS or Android?

Most smartphone enthusiasts typically choose a phone based on the device's OS--and in the smartphone industry, it's practically always a match between iOS and Android. Both devices work great, but it's up to you which gadget you believe suits you best.
