Valve has launched the new Steam Playtest to help developers beta test new games easier. For many years, the game publisher has served as a digital game store on PC.
Its job is to manage demos, test groups and reviews. Valve was able to do these tasks by relying on a system of key distribution and demos.
However, these technologies are still vulnerable to scammers and other cyber attackers. Because of the rampant hackers and cybercriminals, many game platforms, such as those that develop mobile games, have beta test access or testing suites built right into their distribution system to make sure that their new products will not be affected by certain malware.
Valve makes beta tests easier
Valve has also developed new software to keep up with other game publishers. Its new Steam Playtest will help game developers to invite people and control access directly via the Steam store page.
According to Engadget's latest report, the new technology allows game makers to quickly observe how many players are interested in testing a new title. It can also help them deactivate the game when a test is over, as well as distribute the game properly.
How Steam Playtest works
Steam posted a website blog to explain how the new software works. According to the digital distribution's report, when Steam Playtest is activated, the actual download-and-lay experience is happening on a secondary, supplemental appID.
This will separate the player's playtime, and ownership in the Playtest form the actual game. However, Steam still won't compete or cancel out with Wishlists on your real game.
