NGK Insulators, a known technology provider based in Nagoya, Japan has recently announced its participation in this year's CEATEC 2020 ONLINE that goes on from October 20 up to October 23.
CEATEC is the largest international exhibition in Japan for both the technology and electronics sector but due to the unexpected COVID-19, the exhibit will be done 100% virtual for the very first time. The theme for this year's exhibit is "CREATEC - Toward Society 5.0 with the New Normal."
The corporate theme for the event is "A power solution for realizing the New Normal Society". NGK exhibits its innovative power source for the IoT devices, the EnerCera battery.
What is EnerCera and why does it matter?
EnerCera is a particular battery that is compact, thin, with high energy density, and a high power lithium-ion rechargeable battery that goes with high heat resistance characteristics.
There will be a wide variety of EnerCera battery sizes on display at NGK's virtual exhibition booth. NGK will also be introducing a maintenance free IoT device concept, using the rechargeable EnerCera battery with Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) and energy harvesting technology.
Furthermore, NGK will introduce IC card circuit boards compatible with the short-range wireless NFC charging standard which was developed together with Fujikura Ltd. and Torex Semiconductor Ltd. These circuit boards with the EnerCera batteries will significantly improve the performance of next generation smart cards.

Power source using Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology
Maintenance free IoT devices with energy harvesting technology:
- An agricultural wireless smart sensor using geothermal generation
- An environmental sensor using indoor light
Backup power supply for high temperature environments,such as automotive and industrial applications
Use of the EnerCera batteries with in-mold electronics and with printed circuit boards
Card type devices:
- Electronic tags, such as RFID tag, for logistics and quality control purposes
- Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) for applications such as dynamic pricing
- Next generation smart cards using short-range wireless communication

How to watch CEATEC 2020 ONLINE
In order to watch this ongoing event, all you have to do is head over to their YouTube channel and check out their videos. Although in Japanese, there is actually still a way to be able to understand what is going on in the event.
Go to the video you want to watch and click the three horizontal dots below the right side of the video. This will then give you two options: Report and Open Transcript. Click Open Transcript and copy what the Japanese text from start to finish.
After this you can go over to Yandex and type in the text in order to translate this. Although quite tedious, the CEATEC 2020 ONLINE is an event that unveils the futuristic technologies of Japan and is hard to miss for those enthusiasts and those whose professions revolve around the future of technology.
