Tesla Confesses Model 3 Design Flaw Leads to Rear Bumper Falling Out When Accumulating Water—Not Rain Proof?

After two long years, Tesla Motors finally confesses that it was indeed the company's design flaw that leads to the rear bumper falling out when driving through puddles of water and heavy rain, accumulating as it passes by. The design flaw was first observed on the Tesla Model 3 by concerned owners that are getting under warranty coverages for repairs.

The clean energy company, Tesla, is finally owning up to its ensuing design flaw that is dangerous to the driver and other vehicles present during a heavy downpour of rain. The famous electric vehicle company's investigation led to discovering its own mistake in the rear bumpers' dangerous detachment.

Tesla Confesses: Design Flaw Popping off Rear Bumpers Was Ours

According to Electrek, Tesla recently released a service bulletin documentation that states its admittance on its design flaws for the problem that affected several vehicles bought from the company. Tesla will cover the body damage under warranty; however, flooding the car would void the free repair.

The "flying" rear bumper is the only inclusion in the free repair, and Tesla would still investigate the car when presented to repair centers. The design flaw of the vehicle's underbody has the rear bumper having multiple entry points for rain, flood, or puddle water to seep in, and accumulating considerable amounts of water leads to the bumper falling off.

The Tesla Model 3 holds the rear bumper's design flaw from owners and drivers of the electric vehicle. However, this does not absolve other electric cars in Tesla's line-up. Currently, there are no known reports or complaints from other cars from the company apart from the Model 3.

The service bullet document says that vehicles made before May 21, 2019, on the Fremont Factory are the vehicles affected by the flooding case.

Tesla Rear Bumper Fallout: Driver's Testimonies

Tesla Model 3 drivers who had their rear bumpers falling out reported the problem to the company's repair centers and the short word social media, Twitter. Initially, Tesla blamed the owners for driving on shallow water puddles, saying it was driver error.

In a thread, two Tesla Model 3 drivers were sharing complaints against the electric vehicle during the rainy season that caused the rear bumper to pop off the car. These complaints were initially filed in 2018, and drivers were helpless to pay for the repairs of the rear bumpers.

Another separate incident showed BenjiFranks' (@Benj1Franks) Model 3 missing a bumper when he admitted that he drove through 12 to 15 inches of flood. The driver was going less than ten miles per hour but still caused the rear trunk to detach.

The Tesla driver was advised by the service center "to find a body shop" that would repair the electric vehicle's missing rear bumper. Franks' report was last August 2018, two years before Tesla admitted that it was indeed the company's design flaw.
