Tesla Rival Lucid Unveils DreamDrive; Twitter Reacts to One-Week-Old Model X With Suspension Failure

Lucid Motors, a rival to Elon Musk's Tesla, has unveiled its DreamDrive system, the company's newest benchmark for advanced driver-assisted electric vehicles (EVs), which they describe as the "most comprehensive sensor suite on the market."

Lucid Motors Launches DreamDrive

According to a report by Self-Driving Cars 360, the DreamDrive system was officially launched earlier this week on Tuesday, July 28.

"We have developed Lucid DreamDrive to be among the most advanced ADAS to ever be offered to consumers," said Dr. Eugene Lee, the senior director for autonomous driving of the company.

Based on the report, the system is a much more advanced sensor suite that further advances the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), turning them into a near-semi-autonomous level, which means the first "pure-electric luxury car" from Lucid Motors will include a driver monitoring system and a sensor suite with high-resolution Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) sensor.

For those who are not aware, the LIDAR sensor is used to measure the distance between each and every object in a vehicle's path.

Qualify as Level 2 Autonomous Vehicle

Furthermore, Lucid's DreamDrive system will support 19 key features in driving, safety, and parking assist future using 32 sensors consisting of ultrasonic sensors, the latest camera, radar, and more, which will become the standard on the Lucid Air upon its delivery next year.

There will also be eight more features that will be delivered via the next over-the-air updates, which should make any vehicle with the DreamDrive system qualify as a Level 2 autonomous vehicle.

"We have ensured that the Lucid DreamDrive hardware and software platform not only offers a full suite of Level 2 features but is also Level 3 ready," Dr. Lee further said.

The orders for this luxury EV are in and the carmaker is reportedly delivering them early 2021.

Twitter Reacts to Tesla Suspension Failure

In related news, Twitter folks are going crazy over a one-week-old Tesla Model X that suffered from a major suspension failure that could have dire consequences for the driver and the passenger.

In a Twitter post by @beastlyorion, the new Tesla Model X had its "wheel just fell off," a euphemism for the "lower control arm snapped" and, as Jalopnik pointed out, looked like a ball joint failure as well.

In a succeeding post, the car owner said that Tesla has made him pay for the repair, which costs around $80,000.

After the post got the attention of Musk's and Tesla's followers, they quickly came to the company's defense, with others saying it was hard to believe as they have never heard of such a problem from other Tesla cars.

However, others argued and referenced other suspension failure cases with Teslas.

Meanwhile, others defended the CEO himself, with one Twitter saying Musk is "literally saving the world," while the car owner has dared harass him and even said the problem might have been caused by the owner.

There were even some users who blatantly asked him whether the Tesla was his.

As of writing, the company nor Elon Musk has not commented on the issue yet.
