Perhaps keeping in mind that a lot of PS4 fans are searching for more ways to kill time before The Last of Us Part II eventually drops next month as Sony launches the next free PS Plus title a little early. And it's a pretty big one - subscribers will catch Call of Duty: WWII, beginning tomorrow at no extra cost.
PlayStation Plus subscribers will have access to the Call of Duty for Sledgehammer Games: WWII as part of their subscription, starting on May 26. It's the only title Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced as part of the PS Plus lineup next month. Still, the company said it will share additional details of its June lineup later this week on Twitter.
Sledgehammer's game brought the Call of Duty franchise back into the World War II era, the setting of the 2003 original Call of Duty.
What's in store?
Any players who missed out on the return of Call of Duty to the Second World War now have the opportunity to rectify their mistake. PS Plus gives subscribers unlimited access to two video games per month for as long as they remain a member, and the new title to join the roster is WWII.
"Call of Duty returns to its roots with Call of Duty: WWII-a breathtaking experience that redefines World War II for a new gaming generation," reads the synopsis from publisher Activision on the game's store page. "Land in Normandy on D-Day and battle across Europe through iconic locations in history's most monumental war. Experience classic Call of Duty combat, the bonds of camaraderie, and the unforgiving nature of war."
Although several players have gone on to Black Ops 4, and Modern Warfare, Call of Duty's multiplayer: WWII is still active due to its distinct distinctions. Call of Duty: WWII has a radically different feel from its contemporaries, with its lack of regenerating fitness, separate progression framework, and period-authentic armaments. Now, players who missed out the first time around have another chance to plunge into one of the best shooters of 2017.
Other updates
Modern Warfare and Warzone received a slew of new updates in the past week in other Call Of Duty news. A Ghost Pack Contingency pack has been released into Modern Warfare. It featured two new weapon styles, including a Legendary assault rifle, and a classic skin that gives Ghost 'a look that veterans will recall.' Warzone was also launched with two new maps: Hardhat and Aisle 9.
Sony also announced that the State Of Play episode this week will focus on The Last Of Us Part II of Naughty Dog. It will feature eight minutes of unseen gameplay footage.
PlayStation Plus customers looking to re-upgrade or extend their subscriptions will want to wait until June when Sony's Days of Play promotion provides discounts on the service and a range of PS4 games.
