Cancelling Netflix account can be a tricky one for other users to process; the subscription can be canceled using the mobile app or using a computer. Once the account is successfully canceled, the membership across all devices will also be canceled. However, uninstalling the Netflix app from your smartphone or other devices won't automatically cancel your membership. To address the issue, the streaming platform will be sending a cancellation notice to those users whose accounts are dormant for a year.
Here's what to do once received cancellation notice from Netflix
According to CNN Business's previous report, Netflix users will be asked by the streaming service if they still want to retain their current membership. However, if the user missed the given notification, Netflix will automatically cancel their subscription.
"You know that sinking feeling when you realize you signed up for something but haven't used it in ages?" said Eddy Wu, Netflix's director of product innovation, which was provided in Netflix blog on Thursday, May 21.
"At Netflix, the last thing we want is people paying for something they're not using," he added.
Netflix will be reaching out to those users who haven't used their account for a year since the day they subscribed. Edd Wu said that the company will also do the same to those people who haven't watch anything for more than two years. The streaming service clarified that they will be sending in-app notification or emails starting this week.
The company clarified that only half of the one percent of its users are inactive, which is only a few hundred thousand in total. Wu stated that the company considered that signing up and canceling should be an easy process for its users. Netflix clarified that those who will cancel their accounts will still have their favorite profiles, account details, and viewing preferences if they will be rejoining within 10 months.
