CD Projekt Confirms Cyberpunk 2077 Still on Track; The Witcher 3 Continues to Sell Very Well

The coronavirus pandemic has been causing a lot of trouble for the gaming industry, including delays in game releases, canceled events, and even game consoles. With that, game companies have no choice but to increase their prices due to low supply. But amid all of these, CD Projekt is still on track--for now at least.

Cyberpunk 2077 is Still on Track

According to a report by PCGamer, CD Projekt has shifted to working from home, but despite that, Cyberpunk 2077 is still on track.

"There is no shortage of motivation, and we also possess all the tools needed to facilitate remote work. We've been operating in this mode for over three weeks, and to-date results confirm that we can carry on with all our operations without major disruptions," said CD Projekt Group CEO and president Adam Kiciński.

Kiciński also confirmed that they would be releasing Cyberpunk 2077 on Sept. 17, as planned.

As of now, no one is particularly sure how the COVID-19 pandemic will progress, and since September is still a long way off, things might be back to normal.

Nevertheless, companies have shifted to remote working to prevent the further spread of the disease, making it harder to work on several projects that require constant collaboration--and if this continues until summer, there might be another delay.

Several developers have already confirmed delays of game releases and even game updates due to the shift.

A Highly Anticipated Launch

Although Cyberpunk 2077 still has a few more months before release, the game is bigger and more complicated--the reason why it has delayed its initial launch that was supposed to happen this April, as per TechRadar.

According to the developers, the game is already complete, but they wanted to spend more time polishing the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a highly-anticipated massive dystopian RPG game, which will be released on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, and will star Keanu Reeves.

The Witcher 3 Sales

Meanwhile, CD Projekt's other masterpiece is still gaining traction around the world and on different platforms despite being released five years ago.

The game in question is none other than The Witcher 3, which has been confirmed to have sold 28 million copies worldwide as of 2019, with 53% of sales being on PC and 11% on Nintendo Switch.

The figure is for both The Witcher 3's physical and digital copies, based on a report by WCCFTech.

"We are extremely pleased with the unceasing popularity of The Witcher 3, especially given the fact that the game will be celebrating its 5th anniversary in just a couple of weeks," said CFO and vice president of CD Projekt Group, Piotr Nielubowicz.

Although The Witcher 3 does not look the best on Switch, it still enables fans to relive Geralt's adventure on the go.

The popularity of The Witcher 3 was among the reasons why CD Projekt had a good year overall in 2019 as they saw an increase of 44% compared to their figures in 2018.

With the imminent release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the continuous rise of The Witcher franchise, the company might see some good results for this year still, despite the havoc that the coronavirus pandemic created.
