LG is yet to officially announce the G Flex smartphone in the U.S. but it seems that the handset may soon head to AT&T and T-Mobile.
The South Korean phone maker announced the LG G Flex in October 2013. LG says that the curved smartphone is the first device to offer such a design in the smartphone market.
"The LG G Flex is the best representation yet of how a smartphone should be curved," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The LG G Flex with its distinctive design, innovative hardware and consumer-centric UX represents the most significant development in the smartphone space since smartphone became part of our regular vocabulary."
LG released the G Flex in Korea in November 2013 but did not release the handset in other regions. However, it seems that U.S. customers may soon be able to buy the handset as @evleaks has tweeted an image of the LG G Flex, suggesting the smartphone may initially arrive with AT&T and T-Mobile.
The leaked image shows both the T-Mobile and AT&T version of the G Flex side-by-side. The render of the AT&T version of the G Flex has a date of Monday, March 17 and the T-Mobile model shows a date of Wednesday, February 12. None of the carriers have officially confirmed their plans to launch the handset in the near term but if the leaked image is to be believed, then customers may expect the handset from T-Mobile in mid-February and a month later from AT&T in mid-March.
The LG G Flex sports a 6-inch P-OLED display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and 245 pixels per inch (ppi). A powerful Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26 GHz powers the handset.
The handset is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel rear-facing camera. A 3500mAh battery fuels the device. The G Flex comes pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but customers will hope that the handset gets a newer version of the Android operating system when it arrives in the U.S.
The G Flex has 32GB of on-board storage and without the option of expanding the memory using a microSD card.
LG has already started a sign up page for interested customers in the U.S. Once signed up, customers will be able to get regular updates about the LG G Flex as and when announced by the company.
