Persona 5: Royal Brought Changes to the Whole Game; Here's Everything You Need to Know

Three years after the initial release of Persona 5 in the United States and the rest of the West, the upgraded and enhanced version, Persona 5: Royal, is finally here after months of waiting since its arrival in the Japanese market.

But, what should fans know about Persona 5: Royal?

Persona 5: Royal's is Finally Here!

For fans who are a little confused, Persona 5: Royal includes the base game and an expansion, but instead of adding new content to the original game, P5R has brought new changes to the entire game, as per VG247.

The changes brought by the enhanced version are both big and small, so in general, it's a whole new experience for fans of Persona 5 and the franchise as a whole.

This is not the first time Atlus has done something like this, as it happened with Persona 4 Golden as well.

There are tons of new changes, but here are a few:

The Changes to the Game

One of the changes Persona 5: Royal has brought includes better translation, probably because the team at Atlus US had more time to run over the dialogues and translate them, plus there were also lines that were re-recorded.

Perhaps the biggest translation change is from the two gay NPCs that Ryuji first encounters in Shinjuku, where instead of hitting on the character, they would mistake him for someone who wants to join drag--something that will continue anytime you encounter them.

Additionally, Baton Passes between party members are now easier compared to the original version, plus gun ammo is also automatically refilled every time the battle starts.

There are also new Showtime attacks, but note that if a Showtime is active, it's essential to use them at that turn, or it will be lost, and players need to wait for it to become active again.

There are also small changes with Palaces, specifically on how to traverse them through Joker's new grappling hook that can be used in certain areas.

Palaces also have new routes that could lead to three Will Seeds, a collectible item that is used to restore some of the party's SP, and an enemy protects each one with the third one being protected by the toughest enemy.

Persona 5: Royal also has a new item, flowers, that can be used to buy items from Jose, a new NPC.

A New Experience

According to Comicbook, Persona 5: Royal players won't expect too many changes during the first hour of the game, except the new opening song, but the pace should pick up considerably when Morgana takes the screen, and the changes will slowly show up bit by bit.

But perhaps the biggest change is the new Phantom Thief, Kasumi Yoshizawa.

Kasumi will have a big impact on the game and will provide fans with a new experience, with her dedicated cutscenes and social events, as noted by GameSpot.

Meanwhile, European fans will have a better time with Persona 5: Royal as it's the first title in the franchise that supports Spanish, French, German, and Italian subtitles.

Persona 5: Royal is available exclusively on PlayStation 4.
