Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr Clash to Reach the Top as Foldable Phones Still Struggle to Make Impact in 2020

It has been a tough run for foldable phones since they debuted in 2019. Foldable phones have had the chance to wow the people with new features and display and whatnot, but they haven't been able to wipe away some eyebrow-racing questions about their durability and price range which has been pulling the devices away from success.

They still face never-ending challenges despite some major changes

Samsung and Motorola have been going head to head in this competition of which one is the best foldable phone for a while now but none of them seems to really stand out. Truth be told, it did not matter who launched first, or who made these devices, all productivity experienced delays and problems with manufacturing, some prices that are questionable, and if smartphone users really need a foldable device.

Technalysis Research analyst Bob O'Donnell has said that that the main issue is that everybody is physically and philosophically tearing everything apart. There is so much interest in these things on hand and then some huge disappointment with what had happened to the first Fold on the other which makes the whole category a bit plagued.

They lost interest from users as quick as they captured their attention

Foldables have indeed piqued smartphone users' attention. Mainly because they were new to everyone's eyes. Something that no one has ever seen before and screens that fold in half something that no one ever thought was going to happen. Samsung, Motorola, Huawei and Xiaomi have already shown off their devices' designs and basically the majority of other brands have been rumored to be planning on making foldables as well, hoping that it would be something much more interesting to buy than the old plain designs we've been getting for the past years.

That's not the case this time around. Instead, they have made it harder for people to actually choose to use their devices, just like Samsung's expensive $1,380 Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola's whopping $1,500 Razr which both still seem to be problematic in both the tech and price spectrum.

Samsung's Flip is still the worst one out yet

At the moment, most companies don't even have a foldable phone out in the public and yet Samsung now has two. The Flip is an ultra-high phone that has a particularly bendable glass interior display feature while their second flip phone, the Galaxy Fold, is a phone that expands to reveal a display similar to a tablet. Though this all may sound so exciting and great, it has its downfalls. Durability has been questioned more than any detail or feature on the phone. It has been known that because of how thin their glass display is, durability tests have shown disappointing results meaning, it is so easy for the device to get scratched which has sparked controversy around the phone.

Only time will tell if these foldable phones are actually going to be worth the buckets of money. For now, these companies should focus more on how they can improve their tech if they really want to make it on the top of food chain, that is the smartphone industry.
