Ubisoft has polled Far Cry gamers on the future directions of the series. The company is not new to the strategy as it also has a long history of polling the fans of Assassin's Creed in the same manner. Every year, the move proves itself an effective tool in determining what fans should expect in the next game iteration.
In 2010, the year before the game title Assassin's Creed: Revelations came out, fans were polled on the various features that would be expected in the game.
In 2011, a survey that wanted to know about future AC settings earned interesting results, such as the desire to see action in the Victorian Empire and the American Revolution.
A year later, the survey mentioned a pirate-inspired game that has no Assassin protagonist which is akin to AC: Rogue. It also mentioned entering buildings seamlessly, which is another familiar feature from Unity.
According to the recent poll, some of the options include a Far Cry game that is set in the midst of the Vietnam War. There's also the sequel to Far Cry: Blood Dragon and a game set in a "Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world."
Other results of the poll include the return to Far Cry 4's Shangri-La, the Wild West, zombies and dinosaurs, reminiscent of the movie Jurassic Park.
The complete list in the poll asked gamers whether they want to play a Far Cry game that is based or set in:
1. the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry 4
2. the present day on a Jurassic Park-style island of dinosaurs
3. a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world
4. Blood Dragon 2: A sequel to Blood Dragon
5. a zombie outbreak
6. the Spaghetti Western-style of 19th-century America
7. players either fighting against or joining vampires
8. the cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
9. the Vietnam War during the 1960s
10. a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
11. remote Alaska, where players should be able to survive extreme wilderness
Some of the past experiments of Ubisoft on the settings of the series can be seen on Far Cry 4 when players were dropped off in the Himalayas and on tropical islands. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon brought players to a 1980s-inspired neon landscape. Lastly, Far Cry Instincts and Predator has allowed players to fight against genetic experiments.
