Fans anticipating the next title in the "Far Cry" series won't have to wait much longer. The fourth title in the series with a decade-long run will hit store shelves Nov. 18 in the U.S. and Nov. 21 in Europe.
"Far Cry 4" will be released on both next-gen and last-gen consoles, so both the Playstation 4/Xbox One and Playstation 3/Xbox 360 will get support, along with the PC version. The information leak regarding the title's release dates comes from financial statements released to investors by Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot.
"The year's performance will be led by five games -- 'Assassin's Creed Unity,' 'Far Cry 4,' 'Just Dance,' 'The Crew' and 'Watch Dogs'," Guillemot says in the statements. "'Watch Dogs' pre-orders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry's most successful new IP in history."
Ubisoft's blog reveals more information about the title and what gamers can expect from it. This time around the action will be taking place in the Himalayas.
"'Far Cry 4' is set in Kyrat, an untamed region currently ruled by a despotic self-appointed king," Ubisoft says on its blog. "But don't be lulled into a false sense of security by the achingly beautiful views; Kyrat is a wild land full of perils. Once again, players will be able to craft their own stories as they travel through this exotic, open world teeming with wildlife -- using their wits along with an assortment of powerful weapons and diverse vehicles."
When the shooter series originally launched it was really a showcase for the video cards of the time due to the graphics in the original game. It was like the predecessor of the "Crysis" series as a benchmark title. "Far Cry 3" was a bit of a departure from the previous entries in the series in the sense that it was open world or offered a sandbox experience. It will be interesting to see if Ubisoft also takes the fourth title in this direction and refines it or goes back to the series roots.
For those who never had a chance to experience the series, you can grab the original title or its sequel on GOG for $9.99.
