The most-awaited Overwatch event of the year, Winter Wonderland, is now live after a major update this Tuesday, Dec.10, and available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC versions of the game.
According to Polygon, the event will run from Dec. 10 until Jan. 2, 2020, giving Overwatch fans plenty of time to complete weekly challenges and get loot boxes for holiday-themed skins.
New Game Modes
This year, Blizzard is bringing back the limited-time-only game mode named "Mei's Snowball Offensive," along with the "Mei's Snowball Deathmatch."
Based on Blizzard's explanation, Snowball Deathmatch is rather similar to Snowball Offensive and is an eight-player deathmatch where everyone will play as Mei with a modified snowball gun.
However, the Overwatch character has a new ability--the "Catch"-- which enables her to catch an enemy's snowball and add it to her ammo count.
The player that gets 15 eliminations first wins.
Get New Holiday-Themed Skins
Besides, three Epic skins will be given away each week for players who get to win nine matches, so if you want to get one, playing more games and winning as much as you can is the key to getting the following skins:
Week One - Ugly Sweater Soldier: 76
Week Two - Holly Moira
Week Three - Snow Angel Mercy
There are also four new Overwatch Legendary skins you can get, based on a report by GamesRadar, besides the three Epic skins.
The following Legendary skins are:
Jötunn Doomfist
Mountain Man McCree
Rat King Reaper
And the last one is the only skin that was leaked ahead of its release--the Rime Sigma--and was also teased by Blizzard through the game's official Twitter account for the Winter Wonderland teaser.
As per usual, Overwatch players also have the chance to snag previous skins from past Winter Wonderland events.
Winston's New Emote
Winston also has a new Winter Wonderland emote, and it's in honor of a deaf Overwatch League fan, Danik Soudakoff, who went to the Blizzard Arena with an interpreter.
According to Dot Esports, Danik and his interpreter came up with creative signs designed for each of the characters to keep up with the fast-paced narration, and Winston became the inspiration for his new emote.
While You Wait Options
Meanwhile, Daily Express reported that Blizzard has also been testing out new stuff for its fans, and have put them out in the PTR for testing by some lucky fans.
Along with the new skins and modes, the latest Overwatch update includes the "While You Wait" option where fans can choose from different activities while waiting for the game to load.
Players can choose from the following:
Practice Range
Skirmish
Deathmatch
Custom Game
General bug fixes has also been done to the game and fixed several issues, including where the Max Health that's granted by heal-over-time abilities is incorrectly calculated by the Gravitic Flux, a bug that doesn't allow a spectating teammate to rotate the camera during killcam, an issue that prevented D.Va from being detected in Player Died events, and more.
Bugs and issues that revolved around the heroes were also addressed by Blizzard and fixed with the latest patch.
