Battlefield V Gets 2 Big Updates This Week

Battlefield V, EA's signature shooter's return to the World War 2 theaters, is getting two major content drops in the next few days.

The first of which is Community Games. Which launches on Dec. 9. Previously known as Private Games, Community Games allow players to design a game server's setting to their own personal preferences. According to their Community Broadcast post, players will have a wide array of options to tweak. The following listed items are just some of the possible options that can be changed:

  • Server name and description
  • Game size (16, 32, 64 players)
  • Map rotation
  • Map modes
  • Server name
  • Friendly Fire toggling
  • Minimap on or off
  • Player Ban List
  • Allowed weapon and vehicles in the map

Another option that Community Games allow is the return of Battlefield V's time-limited game modes. Regular players of the game are aware that there are weekly events with special rulesets that DICE makes available. With Community Games, players can opt to recreate these game modes, allowing them to play them whenever they want to. Players will also continue to accumulate progression for their weapons, vehicles, and ranks in Community Games servers, provided that the servers are not private or password locked.

Wake Island: The latest theater

Following Community Games, DICE will drop another major update for a map that's familiar to old-school Battlefield players. On Dec. 12, Wake Island will be joining the available maps in Battlefield V. The iconic map set in the pacific has appeared in many Battlefield titles. It was the iconic map featured in Battlefield 1942, and was also available in its subsequent games Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142. The last time Wake island was in a Battlefield game was in 2011, when it was launched as part of Battlefield 3's first expansion Back to Karkand.

The classic horseshoe-shaped map is beloved by players for its multiple avenues of attack and defense. With amphibious vehicles and aircraft, no angle on the island is safe. The map is also medium-sized, making sure that the pacing of the games played on the map is neither too frantic nor too sluggish.

The map is available in two game modes, the classic Battlefield mode of Conquest where sides accumulate points by capturing strategic areas on the map, and Breakthrough, a recent Battlefield game mode where sides are split between Attackers and Defenders.

Wake Island is the third map in Battlefield V's latest chapter in its Tides of War live service, Was in the Pacific. It joins Iwo Jima and Pacific Storm as maps set in the Pacific Theater, where the playable factions are the United States Armed Forces and the Imperial Japanese Army.

TTK Increase

However, not all's well in Battlefield's circles. An earlier update has increased the time-to-kill (TTK) in the game, making guns feel weaker overall. The community has so far been unhappy with this change, with multiple posts on Reddit voicing their displeasure.

This is not the first time DICE increased the TTK in Battlefield V. A year ago, DICE adjusted the TTK but quickly reverted the changes they implemented.
