This Unlikely Pokemon is a Favorite in the 'Pokemon Sword and Shield' Competitive Scene Due to its Massive Damage

Since the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield, fans are slowly collecting their Pokedex and gaining enough skills and level to join the competitive scene—and as it gains momentum, an unlikely Pokemon is rising to the top.

Fossil Pokemon

According to ComicBook, the first competitions are starting in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and as players are prepping their team, fans have discovered a rare Pokemon that deals a great deal of damage to opponents.

The Pokemon in question is Dracovish, one of the four Fossil Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield that can be made by combining two different types of fossils together that can be found in-game.

With Dracovish's lack of weaknesses and powerful attacks, fans have found out it makes a great sweeper that can wipe out opponents in a few moves.

The Great Attack

Although Dracovish looks rather dull at first, it has a rather powerful move that only other Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield can do: the Fishious Rend, which according to GameRant, is a pun based off the Fossilized Fish required to create Dracovish.

Besides Dracovish, another Fossil Pokemon named Arctovish is the only one that can do the move.

If Dracovish moves before its opponent, the Fiendish Rend gets double damage, making it an ultra-powerful move.

Strategy

Former VGC world champion, Wolfe "Wolfey" Glick is turning heads with his strategy using Dracovish and Fishious Rend, which can reach up to 570 base power by pairing the move with the Strong Jaw ability, and a Choice Band equipment.

The great thing about this strategy is that it can rack up considerable damage even without the same-type attack bonus (STAB) or rain boost.

How to Create Dracovish

If you are interested in getting your own Dracovish, you need to find the fossils that can be found around Galar, but unlike previous Pokemon franchises, Fossil Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield are created from two different fossils.

The scientist will then combine two of the fossils together (one upper and one bottom half) to create Dracovish, as well as three other Fossil Pokemon, namely Arctovish, Dracozolt, and Arctozolt.

Here are the fossils needed to create the Pokemon, courtesy of SegmentNext:

  • Dracovish - Fossilized Drake + Fossilized Fish

  • Dracozolt - Fossilized Drake + Fossilized Fish

  • Arctovish - Fossilized Dino + Fossilized Fish

  • Arctozolt - Fossilized Dino + Fossilized Bird

How to Find the Fossils

According to Newsweek, Fossilized Bird and Dino can be easily located in Pokemon Sword, while Fossilized FIsh and Drake are more common in the Pokemon Shield version, but you can obtain all four by trading a Pokemon that holds the item.

Two of the common fossils in your version of the game can be found in Route 6, located nearby the scientist that will revive them for you, Cara Less.

You can get more by speaking to the Digging Duo found in the Wild Area, at the Bridge Field region.

Pay 500 watts to the "reward" brother to have more chances of getting the fossils you are lacking, but it will take more watts and more time before you can find all the fossils you need.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are available on Nintendo Switch.
