Valve Confirms VR Game 'Half Life: Alyx' will be Unveiled this Thursday

After months of speculations, Valve Software has finally announced and confirmed the arrival of a new Half-Life game--the first one in over a decade--entitled Half-Life: Alyx, and will also be Valve's first flagship VR game.

Valve's Flagship VR Game

A full-length VR game from Valve has long been awaited by fans, especially when they announced around three years ago that they will be creating not one, but three full-length virtual reality games, as per The Verge.

Valve has announced the game on Twitter, saying that Half-Life: Alyx will be unveiled on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 10 A.M. Pacific Time.

Initially, fans thought the game would be released in March 2020, according to WCCFTech.

A Leaked Interview

It was after an interview between a third-person, Geoff Keighley, and developer of Team Fortress 2, Robin Walker was leaked, a few information has surfaced online about when the game will be released as well as when it will be unveiled.

Keighley said in the interview that Half-Life: Alyx will be on The Game Awards that will be happening this Dec. 12.

Nothing much is known about the VR game, but it is said that the game will be exclusively made for PC VR systems, including Oculus Rift, Valve Index, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality.

Who is Alyx Vance?

Nonetheless, the new game will likely revolve around Alyx Vance, who appeared in Half-Life 2 back in 2007 and was the closest ally of the game's protagonist, Gordon Freeman, and what has happened to her after mourning the death of her father, Eli, during the conclusion of Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

Yet there are also rumors saying that the newest title will not be jumping ahead of time, and instead will be set during the period in between the first two mainline Half-Life titles.

However, we will have to wait until Half-Life: Alyx is unveiled to know how it will fit into the story.

The Half-Life Franchise

Meanwhile, the arrival of the game will coincide with the 21st anniversary of the original Half-Life, which was released in 1998 on PC, according to Polygon.

Many are excited about the release of a new Half-Life title, especially since the franchise is well-loved by its fans, despite Valve never finishing the supposed trilogy.

But not everyone is as excited about the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, such as Forbes' Erik Kain, most notably because for the first time in a decade, the newest title from the franchise is a VR-only experience.
