Korean MMO developer Pearl Abyss recently announced their newest MMO projects, Crimson Desert PLAN 8 and DokeV, during the G-Star 2019 press conference. The company has also released trailers for each one of them.

Crimson Desert Details

Crimson Desert is supposed to take place in the historical past of Black Desert, serving as a prequel of sorts. The lead producer of Crimson Desert is Jason Lung, who previously worked as Game Design Director for RYL Online. Joining him in forming the game's leads are Dae-il Kim, the found of Pearl Abyss, and Eter Lee, former Lead Combat Designer for both RYL Online and C9. The game has supposedly been in development since 2019. The game is set on the fictional continent of Pywell, where three distinct tribes vie for control over the land.

The game promises to both have traditional MMO elements like trading with other players, crafting, and PVP. It also pledges to have an "immersive single player campaign teeming with engaging quests". The game also prominently features mercenaries and is a vital mechanic in both the single-player campaign and the multiplayer world. Each mercenary is supposedly unique with its characterization and story. All your decisions will ultimately affect your relationship with these mercenaries, from their relationship with the player's character up to the very gear and equipment that they use.

The game is being developed for both PC and Console. No further details have been announced on whether Pearl Abyss is targeting current generation or next-generation consoles. A beta test is planned to happen in 2020.

Gritty Shooter Plan 8

Plan 8 is a new MMO shooter headed by Minh Le, best known as one of the original developers of the Half-Life mod Counter-Strike. Minh Le will serve as Technical Advisor, with Seung-ki Lee, former Environment Art Director of Black Desert Online and Black Desert Mobile, serving as the game's production lead.

While no further details have been divulged, the trailer shows a variety of exosuits that cover a wide range of mechanical enhancements, from wall running to enhanced strength, to even the capability of flight. Plan 8 is also their first game to stray away from the fantasy worlds and environments their games have been known for. The game goes for a more grounded realistic look that's quite similar to Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's The Division 2 or Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

DokeV and Shadow Arena

The last game to come out of Pearl Abyss is DokeV. Unlike their previous titles, DokeV is an MMORPG aimed at all age groups. Black Desert Online veterans Sang-young Kim and Suh Won Choi are heading this kid-friendly project. The trailer showcases multiple companions that are very reminiscent of more established collective-based franchises such as Pokémon and Digimon.

In addition, they also announced a closed beta test for their Fantasy Arena Fighter Shadow Arena, which is also playable in G-Star 2019. The company also hinted that they may be appearing in the E3 Expo in 2020.
