iOS 13: How To Turn On Dark Mode On Your iPhone

Apple iPhone 11
Apple finally gave iPhone users a system-wide dark mode in iOS 13. Apple

Apple launched iOS 13 back in September, and with it came a new system-wide dark mode.

The feature can also be set to switch between the light and dark themes automatically on a custom schedule or sunset to sunrise, the timing of which depends on the user's location. This is especially useful for those who don't want their iPhone's UI to be dark all the time or vice versa, without having to toggle the setting by themselves.

How To Turn On Dark Mode In iOS 13

There are two ways to enable dark mode on your iPhone as detailed below:

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Tap on "Display & Brightness."

Step 3: Under "Appearance," choose between Light and Dark.

The other method is pretty much the same thing. The only difference is how you're going to get to the option. This one's arguably more convenient, though.

Step 1: Swipe down from the top-right corner to bring up the Control Center.

Step 2: Tap and hold on the brightness slider, after which an option to enable or disable dark mode will appear.

How To Switch Between Light And Dark Mode Automatically

Now for those who want to save themselves from a couple of taps every time they want to switch to light mode or dark mode, here's how to set things up so that everything's automatic:

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Tap on "Display & Brightness."

Step 3: Under "Appearance," toggle "Automatic" to on.

Step 4: Tap on "Options" to set a schedule.

Step 5: Choose between "Sunset to Sunrise," which is self-explanatory already, and "Custom Schedule," which also doesn't need an explanation — but for those who do need one, the latter option lets you set the hours you want dark mode on and when it'll turn off.

iPhones Compatible With iOS 13

As noted, dark mode is available only in iOS 13, and that means only certain iPhones that are running on the latest software version can use the feature.

Just to recap, compatible models include the iPod touch (seventh generation), iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

Needless to say, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max all have dark mode. They run on iOS 13 out of the box, after all.
