For years, consoles, mobile devices, and even Android TVs all have official Twitch apps. Apple TV users, on the other hand, have been resorting to third-party apps to access the popular live streaming service on the tvOS platform — that is, until today.
Twitch Now Officially Available On Apple TV
After running on public beta through Apple's TestFlight program last month, the official Twitch app is now finally up on Apple TV.
It pretty much looks like the usual Twitch app for macOS and iOS but on a bigger screen. The app's interface shows a "Home" tab that contains channels and games a user follows. There's also a "Browse" tab, where users can scroll through games organized by viewer count.
The Twitch app for tvOS also offers the same features as its macOS and iOS counterparts. Users can now watch livestreams, on-demand videos and clips, and even join on-screen chats directly on their TVs. Though typing seems to be a difficult thing to do if done through the TV's remote control, there's a possibility that users may be able to type away through their iPhones or any nearby iOS device that can be connected to Apple's set-top box.
Though Twitch is mostly known for live-streaming popular games and channels, it also hosts other broadcasts, such as Thursday Night NFL Games.
As the Twitch app for Apple TV has just been released, it's still in the rollout process. This means it may take a while to appear on some users' end.
Spotify On Apple TV
Aside from the official Twitch app, Apple TV recently got its very own Spotify app. The Spotify for Apple TV allows users to access their music library and other playlists.
Before the official Spotify app was launched, third-party apps charge users up to $10 to access Spotify on Apple TV.
