Pokémon fans who tuned in to the recent Sword and Shield live stream were treated to the sudden appearance of two horse-type Pokémon.
The creatures were later revealed to be the Galarian version of Ponyta, a fire-type horse Pokémon that was part of the original 150 introduced in the game franchise. Much like other subspecies already introduced in Sword and Shield, these seemed to have physical features that are distinct to the Pokémon in the region.
Galarian Ponyta
The 24-hour Pokémon Sword and Shield live broadcast didn't include any commentary or accompanying text that could have provided more info on the Galarian Ponyta.
However, based on their appearance, the horse-type Pokémon seem to have a single horn on their head similar to a unicorn's. They also have pastel-toned, fluffy manes, reminiscent of pink cotton candy.
If this proves to be true, then the Galarian Ponyta's creature design would fit well to the region's overall look. Galar is supposed to be the Pokémon world's version of the United Kingdom, albeit with a more whimsical and fairytale-like atmosphere.
The creatures were spotted in an area of the game map known as Glimwood Tangle. The forest bears some similarities with fairy glades seen in other media, which could mean that Galarian Ponyta may be fairy-type Pokémon instead of fire-types like their progenitors.
Whether this bit of info is true or not remains to be seen, especially since The Pokémon Company has yet to comment on the new Pokémon.
Aside from the Galarian Ponyta, other Pokémon species were seen during the recent broadcast. These included Impidimp, Pikachu, Phantump, Morellul, and Shiiinotic.
Some fans have even created a thread on Reddit, where people can keep track of all of the Sword and Shield details that were featured during the live stream.
Other Pokémon Introduced In 'Sword And Shield'
Last month, The Pokémon Company also revealed a new Pokémon variant that will make its debut in Sword and Shield. The creature turned out to be Sirfetch'd, the Galarian form of the bird-type Pokémon Farfetch'd.
Sirfetch'd is described as a noble knight that prefers to fight its opponents "fair and square." They are Galarian Farfetch'ds that went on to evolve after going through numerous battles throughout their lifetime. They often carry a stalk of leek and some feathers, which serve as their trusty lance and shield respectively.
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company first teased about the existence of Sirfetch'd through a cryptic post on Twitter. The message included a glitched-out image of the Pokémon that showed off its white plumage and not much else.
Some fans correctly guessed that the mysterious Pokémon might be a new version of Farfetch'd.
Pokémon Sword and Shield are expected to come out on Nov. 15.
