The world's biggest music streaming app will soon let users share their favorite music or podcasts to Snapchat. Better late than never — Spotify's social media sharing options have long included Instagram, Messenger, and other popular choices. Snapchat is the latest to join the party.
As long as Snapchat is installed in the same device Instagram is installed in, a user can broadcast their favorite tunes or podcasts over to the app. When chosen, Snapchat will automatically generate a snap that contains song information and album art for the selected track. Then, the user can send this to their Snapchat friends or publish it as a Snap. Users can share individual songs, full albums, playlists, and as mentioned already, podcasts.
How To Share
Using the new feature is the same as with any other sharing options. Simply tap the three-dot share menu located on the top-right of Spotify's user interface and choose Snapchat from the list. Adjust as needed, then share.
Recipients of the Snap will be able to tap the context card and listen to the music or podcast shared.
Apart from sharing music with friends, this option will also make it possible for artists to promote their music to Snapchat, which has 203 million daily active users, most of whom belong to the teen to young adult demographic that many Spotify artists hope to engage with, as TechCrunch notes.
"With this new way of sharing, it's quicker and easier for friends to share what they're listening to — and for others to start listening," Spotify said in a post announcing the new option. The Snapchat share option will arrive on iOS and Android versions of the Spotify app "soon."
Direct Sharing
Spotify isn't the first music streaming service to add an option to share to Snapchat, though. Last month, iHeartRadio introduced it alongside Facebook and Instagram Stories sharing, and claimed it was the first streaming platform to integrate with all three major social media platforms. In general, sharing content from other apps has become quite popular, too. Direct Sharing on Instagram recently arrived on Facebook Stories, allowing users to publish all sorts of stuff to their Story feed.
Snapchat has been languishing of late, in large part due to Facebook's continued spree of copying its most popular features and integrating them into its own services. Aside from this though, Snapchat must prepare for a brand-new threat: Facebook is reportedly working on a new app called Threads that mimics Snapchat's core functions even more.
