Music streaming service Spotify has just silently updated its app for the iOS, now finally bringing the long-awaited multitasking feature to iPad.
Spotify On iPad
Multitasking features such as slide over and split view have been available to iPad users since Apple introduced them in 2015, but for some reason, some apps are slow to adapt.
For Spotify on iPad, users have to either switch to the app's full-screen view or choose songs via a pull-down menu. However, this seems to be changing, as the app has now been updated to support iPad's multitasking features.
The long-overdue feature was spotted by Reddit user DeepScaper. Though Spotify does not typically announce such features in its release notes, other Reddit users have confirmed that the update is already up and working on Spotify for iPad app.
A Spotify spokesperson also confirmed the update via The Verge:
"We can confirm Split View for Spotify is now available to all iPad users. Our goal is to continuously improve the Spotify experience across platforms."
The new Spotify for iPad update now supports slide over and split view, which let users access Spotify on top of other apps (slide over) or use it alongside other apps (split view).
Multitasking support is now available on Spotify for iPad version 8.5.14.816.
iPadOS
Last month, Apple announced the new iPadOS, basically the tablet-compatible version of iOS. As compared to the mobile-focused iOS, the iPadOS will bring improved functions on iPad, such as new home screen, improved Files App and text editing, and an updated Safari for iPadOS, which will feature desktop-class browsing.
In addition to the abovementioned features, the new iPadOS will also bring system-wide dark mode, a redesigned Maps app, and a floating keyboard with QuickPath support.
iPadOS 13 is currently in public beta stage and will roll out later this year.
