LOOK: LG Showcases G8X ThinQ, The Foldable Smartphone With Dual Screens

LG is getting back in the game with the LG G8X ThinQ. The unit is a foldable, dual-screen smartphone, but it is not the type of foldable smartphone that you might think.

Foldable Smartphone Race

The trend these days seems to be the foldable smartphone. It is understandable why creating a foldable smartphone is not an easy feat, but it is a concept that is capturing the imagination of many companies and enthusiasts alike.

Among the companies, LG is not really one that will spend money on gimmicks including the foldable smartphone race. However, it just released a smartphone that shows how LG is not giving up on the competition.

LG recently showcased the G8X, a smartphone that comes with a second screen that attaches like a phone case. Once the actual phone is attached to the case via USB-C, the second display can be activated from the settings. Both displays feature a 6.4-inch OLED screen with a notch, and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

Unlike the other foldable smartphones being developed by other companies, the G8X would open into two screens instead of one big screen, which would make it useful for multi-tasking. For instance, instead of closing one app to access another, one can be open in the main screen, and another in the second.

The G8X comes with 6 GB RAM and Snapdragon 855, 4,000 mAh battery capacity, Android 9, and a new UI. It also features two cameras at the back, a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera as well as a 12-megapixel standard angle lens with optical image stabilization, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera in front. As a bonus, it can also be used for ASMR recordings. Once the feature is selected, the microphone will be turned up to 10 db.

There is so far no news how much the LG G8X could cost, or if it will come in a bundle or be sold separately. Regardless, LG fans are already excited about what the new concept could bring.
