IMDb, which is under the Amazon umbrella, is bringing IMDb TV to the mobile.
For the uninitiated, the company launched the streaming service (formerly known as IMDb Freedive) back in January, introducing an ad-supported model for free TV shows and movies. With the most recent update, users can now watch on their smartphones or tablets without paying a dime.
Watch Free Movies And TV Shows
To start streaming free content, all users have to do is update their IMDb apps on Android or iOS via the Play Store or Apple App Store, respectively. Of course, they can always just go to the IMDb TV website to get their TV or movie fix there. Previously, it was only accessible through the web (as linked above), Fire devices, and Prime Video as a free channel, which isn't a surprise since IMDb is owned by Amazon, after all.
Now it should be mentioned that the service is available only in the United States right now, and it's scheduled to expand to European countries later in the year. There's no word on whether it's going to arrive to other regions or not.
Beefing Up Its Content
Streaming TV shows or movies free of charge is, by all means, an enticing offer. However, this typically meant a not-so-good selection. That's not the case with IMDb TV, though.
The service started off with titles like Fringe, Heroes, Monster, The Last Samurai, True Romance, Run Lola Run, Foxcatcher, and many others.
In June, it then increased its roster, thanks to deals inked with Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Entertainment, and MGM Studios, bringing movies like Captain Fantastic and La La Land to the mix.
It also struck deals with Paramount and Lionsgate, allowing it to add movies like Silver Linings Playbook and In the Heart of the Sea, as well as the TV series The Middle.
In short, IMDb TV being free may be setting off red flags, and that's understandable. While it's not exactly "free" since it does have ads, it does have a ton of great content that users don't have to pay for — in the traditional sense, that is.
